Jonathan Brandts as Bastain and Kenny Morrison as Atreyu in The Neverending Story II
Story II is better this time out

The Neverending Story II
(Warner Brothers’!
The first Neverending Story
was a moderate success. It com¬
bined inventive special effects with
a story about a boy’s unhappiness
with his real world life. The Nev¬
erending Story II continues with
more of the same - but does it bet¬
ter this lime out.
Jonathan Brandis returns in his
role as ’’Bastian," a young boy who
has much sadness in the real world
so he jumps at a chance to go once
again to the land of Fantasia. There
the "childlike empress” (Alexandra
Johnes) is being threatened with ex¬
tinction by the evil Xayide
(Clarissa Burt).
Once again Bastian teams up
with his friend Atreyu (Kenny Mor¬
rison) to find the secret of the evil
source and root it out. To do this he
must battle giant crablike monsters
who protect Xayide, and this tests
his courage to the highest degree.

Former Fort Valley resident Ellen
Futral, daughter of Tom and Betty
Futral, will be the wife in one of
the three couples who star in the
upcoming Macon Little Theatre
production of Baby.
Baby is for everyone who ever
was one! It is an intimate musical
about the joys, terrors and comedy
of the most important nine months
of a life.
Baby looks at three couples and
their voyage to parenthood. Lizzie
and Danny are two college students,
not married; he's willing, she’s not.

gives the film a comical element
that is not intended. Shipp is now
seen each week as The Flash and
therefore is completely recognizable
to children as a super-hero. Once he
shows up on screen the kids expect
him to do wondrous things in a
rapid manner. When he doesn’t they
are disappointed.
The movie is aimed at children
between ages of nine and fourteen.
Children younger than that may be
scared by the monsters in the film.
Children of older ages may prove
too sophisticated for a story as
simple as this one.
The special effects are very
good in the film and the creation of
another world is quite inventive.
The plot itself is simple to a fault.
Bastian has to find his own heart s
desire in order to help the world of
Fantasia. This he does in true Wiz¬
ard of Oz fashion.
The movie is rated PG for mild
violence.
Jonathan Brandis makes a be¬
lievable young hero and Shipp is
competent as his father. The other
Pam and Nick are a couple in their
mid-30s who are unable to easily
have children but are determined to
try. Arlene (Futral) and Alan are a
couple escaping parenthood with
their last child in college-an an
niversary night at the Plaza Hotel
and the cycle begins again.
With humor and sentiment, joy
and pain, Baby sings of that most
worldly condition-birth.
The play runs through February

performers act their roles in a way
that keeps the fanciful believable.
It is not necessary to have seen
the first Neverending Story in order
to enjoy this one. Although there
are several references to the first
film you can still catch on to the
new plot in a matter of minutes and
have clear sailing all the way
through.
The world of Neverending
Story II is an amazing one and will
provide good entertainment for the
young people in your family.
I scored The Neverending Story
II a magical 5 out of 10.
As an added treat for the chil
dren, this movie is preceded by a
brand new Bugs Bunny cartoon.
This is the first new Bugs Bunny
cartoon in 26 years and is issued to
help celebrate Bugs 50th anniver¬
sary in show- business. Bugs’ car¬
toon friends, Elmer Fudd and Daffy
Duck, join him in this cartoon and
add to the enjoyment of the fea
turette.

Belushi & Grodin are yin and yang
And never the twain shall meet in this film
Taking Care of Business
(Hollywood Pictures Home Video)
On a recent trip to California
the movie offered on the plane was
Taking Care of Business . It proved
to be a very popular film with the
passengers who laughed out loud at
the antics in the movie. Now the
video of this film is at your local
store so you can bring Jim Belushi
and Charles Grodin home and watch
their wacky ways.
Jim Belushi plays Jimmy, a
crook. At the start of the film he is
in prison for multi-counts of grand
theft auto. He has served his time
and is just about ready for parole,
but then he wins a radio contest for
two tickets to see the Cubs in the
World Series. That causes a prob¬
lem. Jimmy is a Cubs fan of the
highest order and the game is to oc¬
cur before he is released from
prison.
He begs the warden (Hector
Elizondo) to let him out early but
the warden says no go. So Jimmy
goes anyway. He arranges a riot
which will make his absence un
known. Then he easily sneaks a ride
out by hanging on to the bottom of
a truck. Jailbreaking was never so
easy.
While this is going on,
Spencer Barnes (Charles Grodin) is
getting more and more tangled up
in the business side of his life. His
wife, Veronica Hamel, feels com¬
pletely neglected and is threatening
divorce; but his boss, Stephen El¬
liott, keeps dangling future promo¬
tions in front of him. So Spencer
goes for the gold (watch) and flies
off to California for one more big
deal.
At the airport Spencer loses his
"filofax," the book in which he
keeps his credit cards, his appoint¬
ments and any other important data
in his life. The filofax is found by
Jimmy who uses it to become
Spencer Barnes for a day.

The silliness of the script could
have been overcome by two more
in tune actors, but Belushi and
Grodin are never in sync. They have
completely opposite acting styles
which never lets them join together
for the fun of the film.
Plus you never forget that
Belushi is a crook. And odds are
that he will go crooked again in the
future. Secondly, Grodin is so up¬
tight and business oriented you
never doubt he will get back in the
very same workaholic rut again and
again.
The women who support the
two male leads are decorative but
dull. Hamel doesn't have enough
scenes to be convincing as Grodin's
wife. Loryn Locklin serves primar
ily to show you what a thong
bathing suit looks like. Gates Mc

age" business woman but all she is
is a shrew. And wonderful Anne

James Belushi is still growing
as a comic actor. The weight of this
film is just too heavy for his bulky
shoulders.
Grodin has played the role of
"Spencer Barnes" so many times he
could do it in his sleep and that is
just what he does here - sleepwalks
his way through the role.
Taking Care of Business is a
buddy comedy without buddies.
Belushi and Grodin are yin and yang
and never shall the twain meet. But
if you like your comedy obvious
and easy you might get a few
laughs from the one-liners Belushi
tosses and the smirks that bounce
of Grodin's face. And on video you
can get a good close up view of the
mugging that both actors do.
