American Legion Auxiliary donates tree
The ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary in a spirit of patriotism
and giving decorated this lovely tree with flags and yellow ribbons
as a tribute to the troops in the Middle East and donated it to Fort
Valley Health Care Center for the enjoyment of the patients. In last
week's paper we ran the picture with the caption that the tree was
made and given by the VFW Auxiliary. We apologize for the error.

operating in Fort Valley
by Charlie Short
Clean Community Director
Residents of Fort Valley can now

the newly located Can Bank on
Knoxville Street in Fort Valley.
The cash for cans facility is conve¬

jacent to the Suwanee Swifty store,
which was closed for business re¬
cently.
The Can Bank machine operates
24 hours a day. to use the machine,
just press the green button and feed
empty aluminum cans into the re¬

your cans to save space in your col¬
lection container, please feed cans
into machine slowly. The Can
Bank will weigh your cans and pay
by the pound, and partial pQund, at
the current rate. You will know
when the machine is through pay¬
ing when the green light turns off.
The Can Bank is serviced by

Senator Hooks... Cont’d from 5A
"My own personal preference is
to locate the airport in central or
south Georgia so that it could be a
vehicle for economic growth in an
area that has the greatest need for
it," Hooks explained. "I believe that
the construction of a second airport
south of Atlanta would be a very ef¬
fective means of bridging the gap
between the so-called two Geor¬
gias."
Sen. Hooks said that state offi¬
cials have an obligation to spur
economic development throughout
Georgia and that the creation of a
state airport authority would give
the state an opportunity to take "a
leadership role" in establishing an
aviation policy and locating an air-

A goal of the Peach County
Clean Community Commission is
to help make recycling convenient,
fun and rewarding. The Can Bank
can be a big help and we hope you
try it soon, if you haven't already.
Public participation in recycling at
the Can Bank is one positive way
that Recycling aluminum cans
helps the environment, helps fight
litter, helps keep rccyclables out of
our landfill, and brings in cash.
Special thanks go to city officials
who helped locate the Can Bank in
Fort Valley, and to the Hunnicutt
Electric Company for donating their
services and supplies to connect the
machine.

Hooks said his legislation would
have no impact on expansion plans
for Atlanta's Hartsfield International
Airport. Hooks cosponsored the bill
with Senate Transportation Com¬

of Savannah.
In addition to his posts on the
Appropriations and Transportation
Committees, Hook is also Secre¬
