Kevin Bacon and Elizabeth Perkins star in the perfect "date film"
t He said, She Said' is feel good film
a
He Said, She Said , is a movie
with a gimmick. You get a love sto¬
ry told from two different views.
The first half of the movie tells the
story from Dan’s (Kevin Bacon)
perspective, and the second half
presents it from Lorie’s (Elizabeth
Perkins). You don't actually go over
each and every scene a second time
but you cover the same basic terri
tory. ,
The movie works and holds
your interest due to the novelty of
the gimmick and most importantly
because of the engaging personali¬
ties of the two leads. Bacon and
Perkins have to be two of the brigh¬
test young actors in Hollywood and
they give their roles charm and
charisma in abundance.
Han is never too much of a
heel, even when being projected in
Lorie's side of the story. He is a lit¬
tle brash and a little aggressive, but
you get to see some tender moments
that show he has a heart though he
keeps it well hidden. Most of the
time he just appears to be an ambi¬
tious young man who thinks women
arc on earth for his pleasure but not
his committment.

worker. They start out vying for
readers at The Baltimore Sun and
later progress to being television
commentators. Their jobs are to
present two very different points of
view, which they always have on
any given subject. But then they be
come involved romantically which
threatens to infringe on their TV
personalities.
One unintentionally funny
scene has Dan and Lorie going to a
club where she asks him to do the
latest dance steps. Dan quickly says
he can't dance. This got a laugh
from the Kevin Bacon fan club as
they all knew he tore up the screen
with his fancy footwork in Foot
loose.
Perkins is not a raving beauty
but she does project intelligence and
good sportsmanship. These are
endearing enough traits to makes
Dan's interest in her believable. You
can even accept the fact that he
prefers her over the luscious ex-love
of his life named Linda (Sharon
Stone).
Stone is a key asset of the film
as is Anthony La Paglia who por¬
trays Lorie's buddy. Both of these
actors could have starred in the film
and you still would have had a hit.
One of these days they are going to
be stars rather than supporting play
ers.
The movie is rated PG-13 for
pro fanity and brief nudity,
He Said, She Said is directed by
two separate directors. Ken Kwapis
directs the He Said part and his
fiance' Marisa Silver Helms the She
Said portion. The change of direc¬
tors in mid screen is not noticeable.
if you are a romantic person
and want a good date movie, this is
if- It isn't too heavy on the dramatic
elements of the story, and it has one
of those really great feel good end
mgs.
I scored He Said, She Said a
contradictory five out of ten.
