Wildcats win Jessie Brown
For the third straight year, the Fort Valley State Lady
Wildcats have opened the season by claiming the
crown in the Jessie Brown Tournament.
Fort Valley’s Natoshia Williams scored 25 points and
Lashanda White added 18 points as the Lady Wildcats
defeated Voorhces College, 97-76, in the championship
game.
With the win, the Lady Wildcats improved to 2-0 on
the young basketball season.
White and Williams were among four Lady Cats who
scored in double figures. White also led the Lady
Wildcats on the boards with 12 rebounds.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a quick lead before
Voorhees led briefly on a jumper by Elnore Jeter (29-
28) midway through the first half. Fort Valley then took
control of the game and led by nine (47-38) at the end
of the first half.
Elnore Jeter of Voorhees led all scorers with 27
points.
Williams, a senior guard, was named Most Valuable
Player in the tournament. Florida Memorial's Michelle
Rodriguez, earned the Hustle Award.
Fort Valley's Williams and White, a junior forward,
were named to the 1995 Jessie Brown All-Tournament
Team.
In the consolation game, Florida Tech improved to 1-
1 on the season with a 58-50 win over Florida
Memorial (1-4).

Former Trojan major
in Middle Georgia victories
was a major force in Middle Georgia College’s
victories over Gulf Coast and Shelton State as the
Warriors opened the 1995*96 basketball season in
College last weekend.
Slaughter put in 15 points and pulled down
rebounds as the Warriors defeated Gulf Coast
tourney.

In the 99-90 win over Shelton State of Alabama,
Slaughter ended the night with 12 points and eight
rebounds for the Warriors.
The Warriors are slated to travel to Tallahassee,
Fla. to play in the Tallahassee Classic where they
will take on Brevard Junior College (North
Carolina) Thursday night and Clinton Junior
College (South Carolina) Friday night. The tourney
will end with a game against Tallahassee
Community College (15th in the NJCAA poll.)

After blocking the Pirates' extra
point try, the Trojans drove 51
yards for a score. Thomas and
Rumph alternated carries and
moved the ball to the 22. Thomas
then got the call and went the
distance for the score. Regan
Torbert then carried the ball in for
the two-point conversion and the
Trojans led 36-13.
The Trojans will now travel to
Augusta for an 8 p.m. meeting with
Josey Friday night in the first round
of the state playoffs. All tickets for
the game are $6, as set by the state,
and may be purchased at the gate,
according to Coach Walker.
