Thanks for all the support
The Silent Auction and Dinner last Thursday evening proved a great suc¬
cess and a lot of fun to boot
The turnout was
strong and the bidding
was enthusiastic for the Peach
fund raising event at
Massee Lane Gardens. Public
High bidders took
home some truly unique Libraries
items while supporting
the building projects for
the Library and the
Chamber of Commerce.
Dinner guests were entertained by Dr. Neil Shulman who then hosted the
auctioning of hundreds of donated items.
The library greatly appreciates all the time, effort, and generous support
put into the project by local businesses and concerned individuals.
Because the fundraiser went so well, the library and Chamber are very
close to realizing their goal for new headquarters and expanded services.
Peach County Cooperative Extension Agent, Wanda McLocklin will
hold two workshops on preparing edible treats and gift ideas for Christ¬
mas. Call 825-6992 to register for the free program on Thursday, Nov. 30.
The workshop will be held in the Meeting Room at the Thomas Library
with the first program starting at 10 a.m. and the second at 7 that evening.
Pick up a copy of the 1996 Olympic Torch Relay application at either
library location.
The official Olympic torch will be traveling through Peach County prior
to the games and it’s a chance to nominate a local citizen to carry the
flame towards its final destination.
Because the response in the past has been so generous, the Peach Public
libraries is again sponsoring its FOOD FOR FINES drive this holiday sea¬
son. Patrons can pay overdue fines with a donation to local charities of
toys or canned goods through the month of December. Watch for more
details in the weeks to come.
The Byron and Thomas Libraries will be closed this Thursday and Fri¬
day, Nov. 23 and 24 for the Thanksgiving holiday. The libraries will be
open regular hours on Saturday from 10.am. until 5 p.m. and books can be
returned anytime at the curbside Book Drop.
For information on programs, schedules, and special events call the
Byron Public Library at 956-2200 or the Thomas Public Library at 825-
6992.

CASINO, by Nicholas Pilcggi. Frank Rosenthal went to Las Vegas to try
to escape his past. No one new more about casinos and along with his
partner, ‘Tony the Ant” Spilotro, he virtually ran the town. It was a perfect
arrangement until the beautiful Geri McGee showed up one day to com¬
plete a fatal love triangle.
COMING HOME, by Rosamundc Pilcher. In her most ambitious novel
yet, the bestselling author creates a personal story about coming of age
with characters readers can believe in and care for.
A LONG FATAL LOVE CHASE, by Louisa May Alcott. This is a story
of obsessive love written a century ago. Like Hawthorne’s Scarlet Letter,
the tale has lost none of its force and vitality over time. Rosamund Vivian
was raised a recluse on a remote English island. She soon finds herself
caught in a web'of cruelty and deceit when the handsome Philip Tempest
finds a peach ripe for the plucking.
