Victory over

Ah, yes... Victory is always
sweeter the second time around.
"We beat them twice this season.
Now there should be no question,"
said Coach Rodney Walker Friday
after his Peach County Trojans sent
Appling County home for the
season with a 36-13 win over the
Pirates in the Region 2AAA
playoffs.
Peach County (9-2) defeated
Appling County 33-20 three weeks
ago in Baxley in regular season
play.
"This was a good football game
and our kids deserve credit. They
came out and beat this team after
whipping them the first time," said
Walker. "Our kids were focused
and I'm proud of them for their
efforts and determination."
With this second victory over the
Pirates, the Trojans advanced to the
first round of the state playoffs.
And, for the second year in a row,
the Trojans will open state action in
Augusta against the undefeated
Josey Eagles.
After being run over by the
Trojans ground attack three weeks
ago, Appling County came out this
time and tried to force the Trojans
to change their game plan.
"They made us throw the ball,”
said Walker. "I guess they weren’t
going to die a slow death -• they
wanted to die a fast death. They
wanted to see if we could throw the
ball and we responded.
"They made us throw the ball to
win and we did,” he added.
Trojan quarterback Jacques
Rumph threw for 114 yards and two
touchdowns •- both on outstanding
catches by Chris Everett and Danny
Bell. Rumph still managed to
ground out 82 yards as the Trojans
rushed for 172 yards in the win.
The Peach County defense also
answered the call by Trojan coaches
this week.
"We didn’t play well defensively
last week against Crisp County,"
said Walker. "But our defense
showed up this time."

It’s state playoff time, and it’s
back to Augusta for the Peach
County Trojans.
The Trojans (9-2) will battle
Josey (11-0) in state first-round
action Friday night -- the same
team that handed them a 26-7 loss
last year and ended their season.
"Now it’s time for us to try and
fix that,” said Peach County
Trojans head coach Rodney Walker
last Friday after his Trojans
downed Appling County 36-13 in
the Region 2AAA playoffs.
"We needed to prove something
tonight to Appling County, and we
need to prove something to Josey
Friday night," Walker told his
players.
The Trojan coach knows his
team will be going up against one
of the toughest teams in the state.
"We have got to go out there and
play solid football," said Walker.
"We can’t make any mistakes. We
made four mistakes last year that
cost us the game, and we can’t let
that happen again.
"Josey has a great football team,"
he added. "They have great team
speed and are probably the best
offensive team we’ve seen all
season."
According to Walker, the Eagles
lost only two starters from last
year’s team.
"They have all of their starters
back on offense this year, and only
lost two from defense,* he said.
"Their defense probably isn’t the
best we’ve seen, but they have such
great speed. They aren't a
technique-type team — they just
have speed and they make the
plays.
"In testimony to how good they
are — they went to Moultrie and
beat them 35-30 there the third
game of the season." said Walker.
"You just don't go to Moultrie and
beat josey them on their home field,
did and they are for real.”
Josey advanced to the state
playoffs with a 20-13 win over
Richmond Academy in the region
playoffs last week.
Kickoff for the Peach County
Josey game is slated for 8 p.m.
Tickets are $6 at the gate.
