Lee named citizen of year
at awards luncheon
Mrs. Ada J. Lee was presented the
“Citizen of the Year Award” by the
Gamma Sigma Lambda Chapter of
_ The Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity,
Inc.at the Second Annual Martin
Luther King, Jr. Scholarship
Awards Luncheon which was held
in the Food Service Center on the
campus of Fort Valley State Col
lege.
Mrs. Lee is a native of Houston
County, and she currently holds the
title of Ms. Senior Warner Robins.
Her many civic activities make her
more than deserving to represent
the City of Warner Robins. Mrs.
Lee is a Commissioner on the
Warner Robins Housing Authority,
member of the Family Support
Alliance of the Mentally 111 and the
Senior Citizens Advisory Commit
tee, board member of the Houston
Bishop speaks at C.M.E. church
The Usher’s Temple C.M.E.
Church will have as their guest
speaker during Men’s Fellowship
Sunday Bishop Othal H. Lakey.

of Warner Robins C.M.E. Church
where she i9 the past president of
the Stewardess Board, Chaplain of
the Lay Council, board member of
the Community and Family Life
Center, and founder of the Hospi
tality Circle which is an auxiliary
that is very devoted to meeting the
needs of church members during
illnesses and bereavement.
Mrs. Lee was also a contestant in
the Ms. Senior Georgia Pageant
which was held January 4-7,at the
Roswell City Auditorium in his
toric Roswell, Georgia. Mrs. Lee is
a true citizen because she is always
willing to help persons in need. She
is the widow of Mr. Sylvester Lee
and the mother of three children,
well. His mission is to support and
uphold this concept throughout the
Sixth Episcopal District and the
C.M.E. church, wherever men are
working for unity and service
through Christ,

Optimist holds
oratorical contest
The Fort Valley Evening Optimist
Club has announced it’s annual
“Oratorical Contest.''
The contest will be held on Sun
day, March 3, at 3 p.m. in the
Founders Hall Auditorium at Fort
Vhlley State College.
The contest is open to all youth
IS years old and younger. There is
no minimum age.
The first-place winners in both the
(boys and girls) divisions will be
eligible for further competition and
a top prize 0 f a $1,500 scholarship.
The scholarships are funded by the
Optimist,
The official oratorical contest
subject for this year is “Now Is The
Time”. Contestants must speak on
this subject for not less than four
minutes and not more than five
minutes. Scoring will be based on:
poise; content of speech; delivery
of presentation; and overall effec¬
tiveness.
