The name change came about following the dissolution of the agreement between Bruno’s, Inc. and the Piggly Wiggly Company. “The termination of our fran¬ chise agreement with the Pig¬ gly Wiggly Company was a mutually agreed upon decision that will benefit both organiza¬ tions. Georgia National Fair needs volunteers The Georgia National Fair crackers will meet Monday, September 4, to plan their pro¬ gram for the eighth annual, state-sponsored Georgia National Fair, October 3-12, 1997, and their activities throughout the year. The Fair crackers are a special group of volunteers dedicated to sup¬ port the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agricenter. The meeting will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the Fairview Room of the Reaves Arena at the Fairgrounds. All current volunteers and anyone wish¬ ing to join are encouraged to attend. Current and new members will need to fill out an application. “The Faircrackers are very special to us and their impor¬ tance can’t be overstated,” said Michael A. Froehlich, execu¬ tive director of the Georgia National Fairgrounds & Agri¬ center. “The volunteers help us to enhance each Fairgoer’s vis¬ NOTICE OF REFERENDUM ^ Notice to hereby given that a city-wide referendum has been called by the Mayor and Council for the City of Fort Valley regarding a Resolution passed during the regular meeting of Mayor and Council on July 17,1997 regarding the consolidation of the functions of the Utility Commission and the City of Fort Valley, thereby creating a nine member legislative body to oper¬ ate and maintain the functions of the City of Fort Valley. This ref¬ erendum will be held on November 4,1997, in every precinct in the City of Fort Valley. The following question shall be submitted and the voters will be asked to vote for or against the approval of said question: “Shall the Charter of the City of Fort Valley be amended so that the Mayor and Council of the City of Fort Valley and the Fort Valley Utility Commission be unified into a body known as the Fort Valley City Council to be presided over by the Mayor, and with all powers, authority, duties and obligations of each body and with said amendment to be effective January 01,1998. Fur¬ ther providing that the at-large Utility Commission posts shall not be filled after December 31,1999.” The last day to register to vote in said election shall be Octo¬ ber 6,1997. Said election shall be held and conducted under the same rules and regulations as govern special elections. This notice shall also be published once a week for two weeks imme¬ diately preceding the date of the election in the official organ of Peach County. All persons desiring to vote in favor of consolidating the func¬ tions shall vote “YES" and all persons opposed to consolidating shall vote “NO". This 4th day of November 1997.
