Girl Scouting in the United
States was founded in Savan¬
nah. Georgia, by Low, whose
goal was to help girls of all
backgrounds develop resource
fulness and a love of nature by
exposing them to outdoor
activities She encouraged girls
to prepare* themselves not only
for traditional homemaking
roles, but also for roles as pro¬
fessional women in the arts,
sciences and business
“Girl Scouts of Middle Geor

girls Exposing each of these
girls to a variety of opportune

grow mentally, physically and
socially," said Laughter “Over
64 percent of women of distinc¬

Drug arrests made by SO
Bu»y. That’s what Major
Terry Deeae of the Peach Coun¬
ty Sheriffs office said about
this past weekend
Early Saturday morning
deputies were called to a fight
at Do-da’s Lounge on Hwy 11
in Byron about 2:30 a.m Troy
Plummer, 32, and Lon Miller,
32, were fighting over Plum
mer’i wife, M^jor Deese said.
Reportedly, Miller was knocked
to the ground, striking his
head on a car bumper and then
kicked He was taken to the
Macon Medical Center with
serious head usuries Plummer
has been charged with aggra
vated assault Deese says there
will probably be two other aim
pie battery charges forthcom¬
ing against Plummer
At 3:30 a.m that same
morning, security guards at
the Sugarhill Club on Hwy 96
west called the sheriffs depart
ment Mano Porter, age 21, of
an Oglethorpe address, had
been arrested for possession of
marijuana with intent and poa
session of cocaine with intent
While Deputy Postell was
investigating, two other men
cost and perhaps with a sav¬
ings to the city.
Most of the discussion sur¬
rounding Powell’s proposal
focused on details related to
projected costs
Council members, obviously
interested in the possibility of
taking over responsibility for
trash collection, nevertheless
agreed with Councilman Jeff
Holly who indicated he wanted
to get the cost estimates finned
up before going any further
Mayor John Stumbo, in a
phone interview yesterday,
said he and director Powell
went over the cost estimates
Tuesday morning, adding in
some costs not considered in
the original proposal such as
fringe benefits for new employ
He said he would like to
request proposals from several
trash collection services and
schedule a special meeting lat
er this month where all the
proposals can be compared
There are really only two
questions here. Stumbo said, is
it cost effective and can we do a
better job.
Stumbo said he believes the
city can do a better job It only
remains to examine the costs
came up saying they were
there to pick up Porter Upon
being searched, 21-year-old
Edjardodor Cromer of a Mon
tezuma address was charged
with possession of marijuana
with intent and possession of
cocaine James Holmes was
charged with possession of
marijuana and has been
released on $625 bond Postell
