Glickman said that many of
the problems associated with
low crop prices stem from eco¬
nomic problems overseas, in
places like Russia and Asia,
Russia, for example, imports
large supplies of Georgia
chickens and with the bad ecm
nomic situation there, they
have been buying fewer chick¬
ens. As the situations globally
improve, business will increase
again, Glickman stated.
Another bright point in the
agriculture problems Georgia
has faced in recent years lies
with 18 billion dollars
promised to rural agriculture
from the Department of Agri¬
culture. Glickman told Ray An
additional 152 million dollars
has been promised in credit as
well to farmers The aforemen¬
tioned funds will provide some
help to central and south Geor¬
gia ‘s agriculture industry Ray
further stated
Congress must work quickly.
Rep Ray warned, or his farm
ers will not survive economi¬
cally long enough to wait out
the current agricultural slump
As agriculture remains Geor¬
gia’s biggest industry, Georgia
cannot afford to ignore the con¬
cern- of farmers like the ones,
of south and central Georgia,
Ray said
