A report of shots fired
into a major drug bust for
Valley Police.
On the night of Jan. 21,
Valley Police went to 804 Car
men Ave., Apt. B on a report
by a neighbor of shots fired.
The smell of gunpowder was
still in the air as officers
moved in.
Officers Andrews and Ware
covered the back, where they
found Lewade Jackson trying
to get out a window.
Andrews drew his gun and
ordered Jackson to get out of
the window and get down on
the floor. Jackson jumped out
of sight.
Inside, Sgt. Parrish Strick¬
land and Officer Brian Collins
caught Jackson coming back
in.
Strickland, who had chased
Armard Davis into a room,
busted open the door and
found Davis lying in the closet.
Parrish pointed his gun at
Davis and told him not to
move.
Officer Sidney Andrews then
put the cuffs on Davis.

James Owens III
considered
dangerous
Police are searching for a 16
year-old convicted felon who
escaped from the Peach Coun¬
ty Youth Development Center.
Det. Carla Gowen of the Fort
Valley Police Dept, said James
Owens III, known as C.J.,
escaped from a Peach County
Sheriffs Office van along with
two other juveniles.
The three were apparently
not handcuffed or shackled.
The two other juveniles were
captured soon after escaping
in an abandoned house in
Macon.
Gowen said Owens should be
considered dangerous
Det. Gowen said that Owens'
felony conviction removed his
right ns a juvenile not to have
his name released
If you happen to spot Owens

Department or Peach County

Meanwhile, Officer Daniely
had caught Bentrice Turner
trying to get out a side door.
But the catch turned out to
be more than just three sus
pects.
Plastic bags of suspected
marijuana were found on
Davis, along with a large
amount of cash (over $8,000).
FVPD and agents of the Mid¬
dle Georgia Drug Task Force
got a search warrant and
found a chunk of suspected
cocaine in the toilet. A package
containing a kilogram of BUS
pected coke was found in a
trashcan behind the apart
ment.
Also found on a table in the
apartment were a box of bak¬
ing soda, some salt, a razor
blade and some white powder,
possibly used to process
cocaine.
Davis briefly escaped from
police custody but was found

FV council honors
Spiders and Holly
By Jerry Murtagh
The Leader-Tribune
“When I heard they were
honoring Mr. Wilbur, you
couldn’t have kept me away."
Former city councilman Jeff
Holly arrived at last week’s
council meeting to participate
in a ceremony to honor former
councilman Wilbur Spillere.
As it turned out, council hon¬
ored Holly as well. He said,

In accepting the plaque, Hol¬
ly said he wanted to thank the
citizens of Fort Valley for
allowing him to serve.
“I find it real humbling and
1 feel undeserving to come up
here and get something like
this but I did want to come
and honor Mr. Wilbur who
meant very much to us and
our city for many years.
I also want to say it was
indeed a pleasure to serve
with Norman and Ruth and
Barbara and John and Bobby.
One thing I do want to aay
is that I remember Mr.
Wilbur saying that next to
his wife, the two moat impor¬

I could really relate to that.

Jackson told police at the
station that an unknown
black man had entered the
apartment and shot at him.
Jackson could not give a good
description of the gunman but
said he got into a black Hon¬
da Civic.
Lawade Jackson, of 804 Car¬
men Ave., and Davis, of 408
Vienna St., are charged with
drug trafficking, possession of
marijuana with intent to dis¬
tribute, possession of cocaine
with intent to distribute, and
possession of a firearm during
the commission of a crime.
In addition to the above
charges, Turner, of Highway
128 in Reynolds, was charged
with escape, obstruction of an
officer, and possession of a gun
by a felon.
Turner, a.k.a. T-Nasty, and
Davis were arrested last
November for firing shots into
a house that had a mother and
her three children inside.
Stumbo and council mem
bens also took the opportuni¬
ty to honor Mr. Wilbur
Spillere, first elected to coun
c y j n 1982.
Mayor Stumbo told council
members that, “Soon after I
came into office, Mr. Wilbur
came up to me and said, “You
know I didn’t vote for you
and I said, well that’s alright,
that’s
help us understand what had
gone on years ago.
I just want to say on behalf
of myself and the council
,how much he meant to us
and how much he meant to
the city.
One of the things I so
admired about Mr. Wilbur
was his absolute integrity
and he had that total com
mitment to the people of Fort
Valley and we were blessed
by his coming our way*
Mayor Stumbo presented
Mrs. Spillere with a plaque
containing a miniature of the
city seal and inscribed to
Wilbur Spillere:
