Register by October 10th
to vote in November election
ATLANTA ... Secretary of State Cathy Cox reminded Geor¬
gians that Tuesday, October 10th is the last day citizens can
register and be eligible to vote in the November 7th 2000 Gen¬
eral Election. Ms. Cox said that registering to vote has never
been easier and the Secretary of State’s office is working to
encourage thousands of unregistered Georgians to get on the
voter roll before the deadline.
Web visitors to the Secretary of State’s website may complete
a tillable online form, which can then be printed, signed and
mailed to the state’s Elections Division, thr citizens can register
at any county voter registrar’s office, state drivers license test¬
ing facility, DFACS office, or military recruitment center.
“Even as the size of Georgia’s voter roll has expanded, there
are still millions of eligible citizens who are not yet registered,”
Ms. Cox said. “Georgians face critically important choices in
November, including selecting a President, a United States
Senator, 11 Members of Congress, two Public Service Commis¬
sioners, numerous county and judicial diices and every mem¬
ber of the General Assembly. In the two weeks remaining until
the deadline, we’re hopeful that we will see a big surge in reg¬
istration as citizens begin to focus on these election contests,”
she added.
Secretary Cox noted that throughout recent doctoral history
Georgia has ranked at or near the bottom in the percentage of
eligible citizens who participate in elections. Nationally; voter
turnout trends have shown a steady decline over the last
al election cycles.
Ms. Cox said that interest in the 2000 elections appears to be
on the upswing. A recent voter registration drive at an Atlanta
Braves game organized by her office registered 241 Georgians.
A similar event earlier this summer registered only a handful
of Braves fan*.
According to current U. S. Census Bureau voting age popula¬
tion projections, nearly 39 percent of Georgia’s 5,893,000 eligi¬
ble dtisens are still not on the active voter roll. As of August 1,
2000 34196,878 Georgians were on the active list
line of Malachi lotto
the point or place of beginning,
said last line being 150 fast; and
