'Take a Loved One to the Doctor Day"
The Crawford, ftach and Thy
lor Rural Health Network sup
ported and sponsored activities
on September 24th as a part of
the first annual nationwide ram
paign to Take A Loved One To
The Doctor Day." The Bush
Administration launched this
campaign in an effort to address
the differences in healthcare out
comes especially among minority
populations. This campaign w r as
designed to promote better
healthcare by encouraging all dt
izens to go to the doctor where
preventive care am be given and
diseases am lie anight early.
The Crawford, IVach, Taylor
Rural Health Network, as a part
of this national campaign, offered
free blood pressure screenings
and PSA (prostate cancer
screens) tests free of charge.

trihuted. These activities took
place at the Peach County and
Crawford County Health Depart
ments, as well as the Butler Fire
Department
Within this tri county area, 96

done, with 32 screenings found to
be indicative of high blood pres

Center applied for a Rural
Health Network grant. This
grant funding was awarded by
the Georgia Department ofCom
munity Health, Office of Rural
Health Services to IVach Region
al Medical Center for the purpos
es of establishing a rural health
network. The collaborative con
sists of representatives from this
tri-county area. The purpose of
the oollalx native is to assess the
health care status of these corn
munities, identify existing
resources and match existing
resources to needs. If there is a
need that has not been
addressed, the group will look for
grants to fund new efforts.
The 'Take a loved One to the

Habitat’s building
on Faith Day a hit
Construction on Habitat
for Humanity's eleventh
house in Peach County is
well underway. Saturday,
Oct. 5, was designated as a
Pastor's Build Day. After a
devotional time of scripture
readings, prayer, homily and
singing, five area pastors
took up paint brushes and
applied primer on the exteri
or windows under the leader
ship of Ennis Grimes, Sr, con
st ruction supervisor. They
were joined by other volun
teers and supporters.
Pastors participating in
the event were Dr. Michal
Hall, Rev. Linda Hall-FV
Presbyterian Church; Rev.
Ray Gotko, St. Andrew's
Episcopal Church; Rev. Gre
gory Moore, Trinity Baptist
Church; Rev. Estella Green,
CME Church. Board mem
bers included M E. Singleton,
Amos Smith, Jackie Demons,
Isabeil Freeman, Lynda

helping to build for Habitat for Humanity.

We give thanks to the food
coordinator, Emily Strong, for
getting donations of food for
the crew. Breakfast was pro
vided by the Ruth Missionary
Ministry and Virginia Willis
of Central Union Baptist
Church; and McDonald's.
Lunch was provided by Ken
tucky Fried Chicken. Other
businesses that were willing
to contribute food though it
was not needed were
Church's Chicken, Captain
D's, Subway, Church of God
by Faith and Zellner's
Chapel. Drinks were brought
by Rosie Petties, sponsor of
the FVSU Habitat chapter.

NEW LOOK - Adding up all the successful activi
ties and events Hunt Educational Cultural Center
was able to place some goals and projections for the
future. At th top of the list was the flooring in the
gym. HECC is planning to announce a viewing for
the new look. A dedication time and date will be
forthcoming.
