Septembers, 1972:
Israeli athletes killed at
Munich Olympics
On this day in 1972, at the
Summer Olympics in Munich,
Germany, a group of Palestinian
terrorists storms the Olympic
Village apartment of the Israeli
athletes, killing two and taking
nine others hostage. The terror
ists, known as
Black September demanded
that Israel release over 230 Arab
prisoners being held in Israeli
jails and two German terrorists,
In an ensuing shootout at the
Munich airport, thfe nine Israeli
hostages were killed along with
five terrorists and one West
German policeman. Olympic
competition was suspended for
24 hours to hold memorial ser
vices for the slain athletes.

nity to our 20th Anniversary
Celebration, Sunday, September
30 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m. for
refreshments. Our guest speaker
will give a short talk reminisc¬
ing of “Our Beginnings.”
We are fortunate to be a com¬
munity rich in historic proper¬
ties, and the Historical Society
has been able to present many
programs over the past 20 years.
Our current program, working
with the Fort Valley State
University and their history
department, is filming and
interviewing many of our senior
residents with their memories of
Peach County. We will have a
few of these interviews playing
during our anniversary celebra¬
tion. Please join us.

The Promotions Committee

Downtown Development
Authority has voted to suspend
its series of Picnics in the Park
during the hot summer months,
At last year’s six-month series
of picnics, attendance was down
significantly through June, July
and August. The picnics will
resume on September 27 with
music provided by local legend
Bruce Brookshire. They will
continue on October 25 and
November 15. Join us again
when the weather cools for a
relaxing lunch in historic Fincher
Park from noon until 1:30 in

residents. LEAP is very proud
ing artist TUpac Shakur is shot
several times in Las Vegas,
Nevada, after attending a boxing
match. Shakur was riding in
a black BMW with Death
Row Records founder Marion
“Suge" Knight when a white
Cadillac sedan pulled along
side and fired into Shakur’s
car. Knight was only grazed
in the head, but Shakur was
hit several times. He died in a
hospital several days later,

The Peach County Board of Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on the proposed FY2008 Peach County Budget
at 6:00 p.m., Thursday, September 13,2007, in the Public Meeting Room of the Peach County Courthouse Annex, Fort
Valley, Georgia. The Peach County Board of Commissioners has tentatively scheduled a Called Meeting for 6:00 p.m.,
Thursday, September 20, 2007, to adopt the Final FY2008 Budget and to set the final millage rate on the 2007 Peach
County Tax Digest. A copy of the proposed FY2008 Budget will be available for public review in the Commissioners
Office, Suite 204, Peach County Courthouse Annex, beginning September 5,2006.
