Finalists Advance In Miss FVSU Contest
Three finalists for Miss
Fort Valley State University
2009-2010 have something to
smile about today and lots of
campaigning to do next week.
Contestants number two, four
and six are a step closer to
ascending the throne as the
reigning queen. At Thursday
night’s pageant. Crystal
Coley, Sheriann Norris and
Shandelia Shepherd won the
hearts of judges after the ora¬
torical, talent, swimsuit and
evening gown competitions.
Coley, Norris and Shepherd
have to sway the student body
between now and election day
with speeches and smart mar¬
keting. The culmination of
the pageant occurs 9 a.m. to
5 p.m. Monday, April 6 in the
Lottie Lyons Student Center.
That’s when the contestant
that best represents the uni¬
versity will be chosen.
Last night’s crowd of stu¬
dents, faculty, staff and family
packed the Pettigrew Center
auditorium to show support

ting the stage as a spotlight
followed. During a iuli in
the action and periodically
throughout the show, the
audience clapped, waved their
hands and yelled the name of
their favorite contestant
The pageant’s theme,
“Shades of Blue: Creating the
FVSU Royal Masterpiece”
unfolded during the 2 hour
event. Miss FVSU Shanoria
Morgan entered the stage
as a “collector’s item” at a
make-believe museum in a
fragile box that was shipped
to FVSU, according to Chata
Spikes, one of the pageant’s
organizers. When the curator,
played by Dominique Nichols
left the stage, Morgan came
alive for an introduction.
“All of the contestants were
art pieces in the ‘shades of
blue’ exhibition and part of
the Rivers Collection,” said
Spikes. “They came alive
for introductions to museum
Darren Williams in the
amount of $500.00. Mr. Ralph
P. Maione was a long time
member of Gamma Sigma
Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi
Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated.

microphone.” Each beauty
appeared in a flowing gown
and stepped through a golden
frame for the evening gown
contest. The creativity of
Spikes, Annette Johnson and
Kena Torbert, all Miss FVSU
advisors made the evening
memorable. Mr. Delta Gent
Wesley Sprattling serenaded
the ladies accompanied by
pianist Brandon Gay.
The following contestants
received awards during the
ceremony: Jamier Griffith
won the “Spirit” award and
the audience voted her the
“People’s Choice” winner.
Ciara Wesley received the
“Best Formal Wear” honor.
Miss FVSU advisors voted
Norris the “Most Valuable”
contestant and Shepherd
received the “Most Talented”
and “Best Oratory” prize.

He served for many years as
the chapter’s secretary. He
Valiey was employed at The Fort
State University as the
Director of Career Placement
Mr. Malone worked untiring¬
ly in everything that he did
to help the community and
the fraternity. He put lots of
emphasis on receiving a quality
education. The recipient of this
award, Mr. Darren Williams,
is from Alexandria, Virginia.
At FVSU, He is a member
of and has traveled with the
illustrious FVSU Philharmonic
Chorale, President of the CDEP
Organization, and Secretary of
the National Society of Black
Engineers and is a section
leader in the University*®
Concert Choir.
Darren says Before my
time is up at FVSU, 1 will take
a leaf out of President Obama’s
book and be a catalyst in the
progression and growth of The
Fort Valley State University.

Basketball Awards Ceremony
Even though it is about three weeks away, we want to go ahead and tell you that the
Trojans and Lady Trojans basketball award ceremony will be held on April 23 in the cafeteria at
Peach County High School. Starting time will be 6:30 p.m. The cost will be $6 at the door and tickets
may be purchased at the door on the night of the event.
Come and honor our Trojans and Lady Trojans on their successful 2008-2009 season.
