Trojans Win Two Thrillers
on the Diamond
If you like thrilling come
from-behind baseball, then
Anderson Field was the place
you needed to be this week, as
the Trojans had to rally in both
games to pull victory from the
jaws of defeat. One thing about
this year’s edition of the Trojans
is that there is no quit in them.
They will fight to the last out.
In the opening game of the
week. Crisp County came up
from Cordele to take on the
Trojans in an important region
contest that the Trojans really
needed to win. Crisp, bn the
other hand, seemed to send a
message that they were taking
out their loss to Perry on the
Trojans. They lost to the
Panthers 8-5 the week before.
Crisp scored two quick runs
in the first inning to take a 2-0

lead before the Trojans could
ever get to bat. In the Trojans’
first at hat we came back at them
and scored three times to take a
3-2 lead after the first inning. In
the second Crisp scored a run
to tie it up, 3-3. It stayed this
way until the fourth when the
Cougars plated four runners to
take a 7-3 lead.
Peach got one run back in
the fourth, to cut the lead to
7-4 through 4 innings. Peach’s
pitching and defense settled
down and held Crisp scoreless
the rest of the way while we
kept pecking away with our
offense. We got two runs in the
fifth and one in the sixth to tie
the score. Crisp threatened in
the seventh but reliever Travis
Grimes shut the door on them,
allowing no runs.
Jordan Howell led off the
seventh with a walk. A single
by Grant Powers moved him to
third and set up Alex Byrd, who
dropped a bunt down the third
base line. The ball was thrown
to first but there was nobody
there and Howell practically
walked in with the winning run.
Peach took the win 8-7 over the
Cougars from Cordele.
The second game was against
Northside’s Eagles, who earlier
j n the season had beaten the
Trojans 13-3. It was a differ
ent ball game this time, even
though the Eagles came through
the fences swinging the bats,
#1 doubles - Becky Rhoden/
Marissa Smith lost 4-8.
#2 doubles Whitney /
Courtney Clark won 8-5.
The boys lost to Northside
2-3.
#1 singles - Mark Barrett
won 8-5.
#2 singles - Ryan Woodham
Northside got on the board first
with three runs in the first inning
and the Trojans came bade in
their half with two, trailing 3-2
after one inning. The Eagles
then went scoreless the next two
frames while Peach was over
taking them with three runs in
the second ami two in the third,
including Alex Byrd’s 370-foot
shot over the left centerfield
fence. The Trojans seemed to
be on the way to a cakewalk,
leading 7-3 after three innings.
The Eagles exploded against
Trojan hurler Joey Stoy in the
fourth, scoring 6 runs to take
a 9-7 lead. What once looked
easy now looked more diffi
cult. The Trojans went scoreless
in the fourth and fifth innings
while the Eagles added another
run to take a 10-7 lead after
their bat in the top of the sixth.
But hold - on here came the
Trojans! We tallied five runs in
the sixth with William Walker
driving home two runs to tied
the score at 10. Kyle Pike,
the littlest man on the field,
then drove home the go-ahead
run with a single. We added
another run for good measure
and Taylor Howell came to the
mound and shut the door on the
Eagles, ending the game with a
double play. In case you didn’t
add the points, the final was 12-

TROJANS AND LADY
TRQJANS SPLIT WITH
CAIRO
With rain washing out the
Peach-Dougherty match in
Albany on Thursday, the soccer
teams had to take on Cairo on
Friday night under threatning
skies. But, they managed to get
the match in anyway. Coach
Terry Parker probably wished it
had not happened. More about
this,
Our Lady Trojans did not
have much trouble disposing
of the Lady Syrupmakers from
down in deep South Georgia. It
was a defensive battle for much
of the first 40 minutes with
Peach getting the first goal of
the evening at the 3:22 mark of
the first half. Then they kicked
in with three more in the second
period to take a 4-0 lead with
just over 7 minutes left tp play.
The Lady Trojans was just to
tough for the visitors to get by.
With a lot of subs on the field
