The Annual Health Fair sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and Hunt Elementary School was held Saturday, March 28, 2009 from 9 a.m. through 1 p.m. Even with the rain we considered the Health Fair being a success. There was sotnething for all. Barksdale, who earned a B.A. in criminal justice at Fort Valley State in 1981 and a law degree from John Marshall School of Law in 1996. She is an active attorney in the Atlanta area. Distinguished Alumnus in Community Service: Herbert C. Gannt Sr. earned his B.A. In history and political science in 1972 and a master of public administration from the University Georgia in 1975. He is a past vice president of his local NAACP chapter, past president of the Hubbard High Alumni Association, vice president of the Monroe County Coalition and current vice president of his local Southern Christian Leadership Conference chapter. Distinguished Alumnus in Social Service: Macon native George Hopkins is a 1973 polit¬ ical science graduate from Fort Valley State. He worked for the Middle Georgia Consortium for several years before serving in the U.S, Navy for 18 years. He is now back at the MGC as Youth Services Coordinator, where he oversee programs that find jobs for loy-income youth in a 10-county area. Distinguished Alumna in Child Welfare Service. Barbara McDuffie-Taylor, a Cairo native, holds B.A. in political science with a minor in history from FVSU. She spent 19 WALK from Front The Foundation for Retinal Research (FRR) was founded in 1998, when very little was known or published about Leber’s Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). Families affected by LCA had difficulty acquiring informa¬ tion and making connections to help them understand the eye disorder. The Foundation for Retinal Research has bridged the gap between fami¬ lies and research. The website, www.RetinaResearchfind.org, offers people the most current information available, con¬ nects them to other families - and provides links to services. Regina King provided informa¬ tion on mammography; Bertha Ashley of the Peach County Health Department provided a variety of literature; Leesa Rivkmam represented the Alzheimers Association from Macon, Georgia.
