Peach opened the game
scoring on the first posses
sion following the kickoff. We
started on our on 37-yard line
and in two plays moved the
ball to the 46. From there
all-purpose player Demarcus
Robinson raced 54 yards to pay
dirt, putting the Trojans up 7-0
after Alfredo Cervantes made
the PAT with 10:16 left in the
game.
After the ensuing kickoff
went out of bounds, the Raiders
took over on the 35 and five
plays later found them selves

Lady Trojans Fall In Region Playoffs
With a 3-6 region record and
a seventh place finish in the
region, the Lady Trojans went to
the Southern Pines Recreation
Complex as a part of Region
2-AAA tournament hoping to
gain a spot in the state playoffs
and extend their season a little
longer, but it was not to be.
The first opponent was Perry,
who came into the tourney as the
number two team in the region
and has always been tough on
the Lady Trojans and today was
no different. Peach got a runner
on base with a single after two
outs in the top of the first but
could not move her around to
score. After one out. Perry

Bulldogs To Invade Trojan Country
Way back in mid-August
on a well-known sports
message board, some people
from Monroe County wanted
the GHSA to cancel the 2011
season and just award the state
Championship to the Mary
Persons Bulldogs from Forsyth.
Their reasoning was MP had
31 seniors who were going to
dominate all opponents. They
also had almost their entire team
running the 40 in 4.0 seconds or
less. Too much speed for any
one to contend with. Their
team, they said, was stronger
than any team around with most
of them bench pressing between
400 and 500 lbs. This team
looked to those fans as unbeat-

score. The PAT was good and
we had a tie ball game with
7:41 left. We let a good scoring
opportunity go by on the next
possession. After moving the
ball downfield for 50 yards fol
lowing the kickoff, we were
at the Raiders 21. A couple
of losses moved the ball back
to the 26. Peach QB Kentil
Kendrick found Demarcus
Robinson at the 17 with a pass.
Robinson clearly caught the
ball and as he was tackled he
lost the ball with West Laurens
recovering. From my angle it
looked like Robinson's knees
were on the ground and there
fore the play should have been
ruled over with Peach main
taining possession. Instead,
the Raiders started a drive that
ended with them taking the
lead 14-7 with 10:22 left in the
second quarter. The key to the
drive was another long run by
Green,
Peach came back with
another scoring drive of its
own. After a good return on
for six consecutive walks and
four singles to plate eight runs
and take a first inning lead. 8-0.
In the second. Peach loaded
the bases with only one out but
failed to capitalize on the situa¬
tion and came up with no runs.
The score remained 8-0 until
the bottom of the third, when
the Lady Panthers added four
more runs to take a 12-0 lead.
Perry used five hits and a Lady
Trojan error to plate the four
runs. Peach failed to score in
the top of the fourth and the
game was called due to the 12
run mercy rule.
In the second game against
Howard, the Lady Trojans went
down to defeat 8-1, ending the
season for them.
It was a disappointing season
for the Lady Trojans but with
the adversity they faced these
young ladies responded well.
The season started badly when
three of the girls moved on to
other schools. One quit the
team and the head coach got
sick. Jay Barker took over as
the head coach and Keith Barker
was named as assistant coach.
These young ladies responded,
as they had five freshman start¬
ing for the team. With a lot of
the team coming back in 2012,
these Lady Trojans will give
somebody a run for the title
next year.
able, but we know what hap¬
pened. Perry had them dow n by
21 points in the fourth period,
but let them come back and
take a three-time overtime win.
Then Baldwin using a fresh¬
man QB and running back,
defeated them 20-7. So, they
are beatable.
Mary Persons is ewe of a
handful of teams that has an
edge ov»r Peach County in their
series.when it comes to series
wins. Peach is 5-6 against the
“Dogs” but has won the last four
games by a combined score of
128-47. Mary Persons, through
the first six games of 2011,
is 5-1 overall and 4-1 in the
region, identical to Peach. In
the first five games. MP scored
133 points (26.6 avg.) and
allowed 84 points (16.8 avg),
a difference of 9.8 points per
game Meanwhile Peach has
scored 117 points (23.4 avg.)
while having the best defense in
AAA, allowing just 27 points in
5 games (5.4 avg) for a differ¬
ence of 18 points per game.
Size-wise the Bulldogs match
up with the Trojans. They have
one guy at 280. one at 230 and
another at 220. They do have
some speed and good passing
QB. This is an important game
the Trojans must w in to stay on
track for the region and then
state title.

the kickoff, the Trojans went to
work on the Raider 44. Seven
plays later. Robinson again got
the call from 10 yards out and
pulled Raiders defenders ino
the end zone to bring us even
again with the Cervantes PAT.
The scoreboard read 14-14 with
6:49 left in the half. This is the
way it would remain, as the half
ended 14-14.
There was only one score in
the second half and that came
on a razzle-dazzle trick play
with the Raider QB passing to
the flat to Green, who threw
a long pass to a wide-open
receiver who walked untouched
into the endzone. The PAT
made it 21-14.
Peach only made it past mid
field one time after that and on
that possession turned the ball
over on downs.
There were a couple of other
crucial calls that could have
effected the outcome of the
game. In addition to the fumble
mentioned above, there was a
play where the officials seemed
to have forgotten the play clock
and let WL have at least 45
seconds to get a play off. This
was on their second scoring
drive and the third call was an
offensive pass interference call
against Demarcus Robinson in
West Laurens territory.
All in all a good hard-fought
ball game in which West
Laurens was fully prepared for
just about anything the Trojans
ran and had people in the
right places to stop us. There
are still four games remain¬
ing. We have Mary Persons
this week. Perry the next.
then maybe a little breather
with Howard-Macon and then
Baldwin County, who remains
the only unbeated team in
region action. To answer some
questions, this writer feels that
Peach will have to win at least
two of the remaining games to
get in to the playoffs. It will be
hard to make it with four region
losses, but it can be done. Just
