A friend told me that he
once grappled with a spiritu¬
al problem in which he could
not bring himself to forgive
someone who had wronged him.
As hard as he tried, he could not
generate forgiveness. He would
not buckle under to the demands
of the Holy Spirit to stop hating
the person. In effect, he had
placed his need for vengeance
above what God wanted him to
do. Once he came to realize that
he was incapable of forgiveness
toward this individual, he exer¬
cised the only option remaining.
He prayed in earnest asking
God to help him put aside his
ill will. “At that point,” he said,
“I really didn't think God could
help me because my hatred was
so deep and so hardened." But
in due time, he began to have

He concluded his story, saying:
“I remember sitting in church

dilemma is called hitting the
brick wall. Try as hard as you
may, when it happens there is
nothing you can do to help your¬
self.
The unwillingness to forgive
others is a widespread human
weakness that affects many
people, most of whom have har¬
bored deep grudges for many
years, but won’t admit it. If the
opportunity presented itself to
get even, they wouldn't hesitate
to execute reprisal. There are
other areas in life wherein one
can hit the brick wall. In fact,
any irresolvable problem is syn¬
onymous to hitting the prover¬
bial brick wall.

complaining about the work not
being accomplished. You find
yourself at wits end, reaching
the point where the only viable
option is to quit your job. You
have hit a brick wall. Your only
alternative is to reach out to
God.
Jesus hit the brick wall in
the Garden of Gethsemane
when His human side contem¬
plated the horrors of crucifix¬
ion. As evidence of His internal
turmoil, the scripture states that
Jesus’ sweat fell like droplets
of blood. But what did Jesus
do? He prayed to His heavenly
Father: “Not my will, but Thy
will be done."
King David hit the brick
wall fleeing from enemies bent
on his destruction. Unable to
defend himself against his cloak
and dagger adversaries, David
wrote: Hear me. O' God.
Protect my life from the threat
of the enemy. Hide me from the
conspiracy of the wicked, from
the plots of evildoers.” Then
David states with assurance,
“But God will shoot them with
His arrows; they will suddenly
be struck down ” In summary, a
brick wall doesn’t move. When
you hit it, the only recourse is to
reach out to God. Only He can
move a brick wall.

Can Prayer Change Conditions
Prayer affords us the unique
blessing of approaching the
throne of God at any hour of
the day or night, regardless of
the circumstance. This great
privilege is further manifest¬
ed when we take into account
the fact that God invites us to
bring him our petitions. The
Hebrews letter states, "Let us
therefore come boldly unto the
throne of grace, that we may
obtain mercy, and find grace
to help in time of need." (Heb.
4:16). The Saviour himself said
in Matthew 7:7-11. “Ask, and it
shall be given you; seek, and ye
shall find; knock, and it shall be
opened unto you: For every one
that asketh recciveth; and he
that seeketh findeth; and to him
that knocketh it shall be opened.
For what man is there of you,
whom if his son ask bread, will
he give him a stone? Or if he
ask a Fish, will he give him a
serpent? If ye then, being evil,
knowhow to give good gifts
unto your children, how much
more shall your Father which
is in heaven give good things
to them that ask him?” Peter in
l Peter 5:7 shows how God is
interested in our welfare.
The question is, can
prayer change things? Clearly

What better source to find
guidance for our vast array
of oral proclamation, than the
Sacred Text? The wisest of
mortal men inscribed this aptly
verse—"A Word fitly spoken is
like apples of gold in pictures of
silver”. It would seem a knowl¬
edgeable course for ail voices
across the planet! In actuality,
we spend most of our Three
score and ten, jabbering away
on countless subjects-and give
little credence to Solomon's
exhortation.
We are due a remind¬
er, informing in no uncertain
terms, that whatever we utter,
is much like Elmer's glue! A
good portion finds receptivity;
and in many instances, those
and terms we so care-
the Bible lists numerous times
that the prayers of individuals
changed things. One example is
that of Isaac and Rcbekah. Isaac
prayed to the Lord on behalf
of his wife who was barren
and the Lord answered him, his
wife conceived (Genesis 25:21).
Another example is where God
answered Hezekiah's prayer
asking to be healed in 2 Kings
20: 1-6. God not only answered
Hezekiah's prayer to be healed
but told him He would add
fifteen years to his life.
We must remember
that acceptable prayer begins
with an obedient heart. The
wise man said in Proverbs 28:9.
“He that turneth away his ear
from hearing the law, even his
prayer shall be abomination”
The psalmist added emphasis to
this same truth in Psalms 66:18,
“Iff regard iniquity in my heart,
the Lord will not hear me:”
Another perquisite for
God to hear our prayer is that
we must pray in accordance to
God's will, “And this is the
confidence that we have in him,
that, if we ask any thing accord¬
ing to his will, he heareth us:
And if we know that he hear us,
whatsoever we ask, we know
that we have the that

lifetime in the recipient! From
that view, it makes a vast dif¬
ference what our words convey;
whether they contain valid and
viable information, or perhaps
are merely cluttered with ver¬
biage that eletes, destroys, or
denigrates! Our utterance will
almost certainly be termed a
blessing or a curse.
Educators, Theologians, and
Statesmen spend "millions and
years”, endeavoring to convince
an audience of profitable termi¬
nology. It takes only a few sar¬
castic slurs (and a parallel atti¬
tude) to decimate all sensibility.
Do keep in mind that we are
speaking of secular advantages,
as well as the path to a decent
moral course! Those that spend
time trying to impress bystand¬
ers with a “wild and wanton"
language, are not only guilty
of hindering others a decent
future—but likewise are con¬
tributing to the destruction of
their inner being! A conscience

we desired of him."
(I John 5: 14-15).
Yet another perquisite
for God to hear our prayer is
that we must pray in the name of
Christ. Jesus said in John 14:13,
“And whatsoever ye shall ask in
my name, that will I do, that the
Father may be glorified in the
Son. If ye shall ask any thing in
my name. I will do it.”
So we pray, because we are
conscious of a need and we rec¬
ognize that God alone can meet
that need. The many examples
of prayers being heard by God
makes it clear that God responds
to man's requests through prayer
only when man prays in accor¬
dance with Cod's will.
Prayer is a powerful
tool in the life of a Christian.
As James stated in James 5:16,
‘...The effectual fervent prayer
of a righteous man availeth
much,' The Lord also stated
in Luke 18:1, “ to this end, that
men ought always to pray, and
not to faint;”

an obvious jolt under such cir¬
cumstances! We are then faced
with a choice—disregard the
warning system, or rectify the
course we pursue.
The inexorable world we live
in, seems to insist that profane
and abstract terms disseminat¬
ed, are proof that we have “our
world together"; when in fact
the exact opposite is true. Even
the academies of advanced
knowledge, continue to inter¬
weave such garbage with cur¬
riculum as standard procedure!
What a shame.
Those with condemnation of
our script, need to be specifi¬

for humor, peripheral values,
statistical fact, and additional
virtuous data. Those who merit

The choice is obvious.
