The beginning of the 2011
football season wasn't great for
the Peach County Trojans.
“Things looked mighty bleak
at the time," Head Coach Chad
Campbell said at last week’s
Peach County Football Awards
Ceremony. “It made you want
to lose your pre-game meal."

Peach County High School
football fans will probably
remember the mid- to late
I990’s as pretty good years
for the Trojans. A lot of those
fond memories come courtesy
of Rodney Walker, who was
Head Coach from 1994-1998.
Walker recently announced his
retirement from coaching after
39 years. He had coached his
alma mater Mary Persons for
the past six years.
Walker lead the Trojans to a
51-12 record from 1994-1998,

Walker led the Trojans to the
first round of the state play¬
offs in 1994 and 1995 and the
second round in 1996 and 1997.
His best year in Peach County
was 1998, when the Trojans
went all the way to the State
Championship game against
Dougherty County, losing 27-7.
Walker moved on to Sandy
Creek, where he went 48-19.
His record at Mary Persons
was 40-24. He joined the elite
company of 300-win coaches
in his final season with the
Bulldogs to wrap up his career
with a record erf 300-141-3, or a

The Trojans wound up 9-1 in
the regular season. They came

and went on to win a thrilling
victory over Carrollton, 19-15,

the Bulldogs romped, 41-20.
Walker won a State

Mary Persons 14-7.
His son Chip took over
Sandy Creek from his father
in 2006, and went on to win
back-to-back state titles in
2009 and 2010, the second one
including a semi-final win over
the Trojans. That feat made
Rodney and Chip Walker the
only father-son duo to win state
titles in Georgia.
"I can’t take anything away
from these guys and what they
accomplished," Campbell said.
Last Thursday was a day
to bestow honors on various
Trojan football players.
