Rhianna Baldree Of Peach County High
School Is Named Star Student
Rhianna Baldree, high
school senior, has been named
2012 PAGE STAR Student for
Peach County High School.
The announcement was made
last week by Perry Swanson,
president of the Peach County
Chamber of Commerce.
Rhianna is the daughter of
Barbara and Robert Baldree of
Byron. She selected Mr. Victor
Hedgpeth. a teacher at Peach
County High School, as her
STAR Teacher.
The PAGE Student Teacher
Achievement Recognition
(STAR) program, in its 53rd
year, is sponsored by the
Professional Association of
Georgia Educators (PAGE)
Foundation, the Georgia
Chamber of Commerce and
the Georgia Department of
Education. Since its inception,
the STAR program has honored
more than 22.000 students and
the teachers they have selected
as having had the most influ¬
ence on their academic achieve¬
ment. To obtain the STAR
nomination, high school seniors
must have the highest score on
a single test date on the three
part SAT and be in the top 10
percent or top 10 students of
their class based on grade point
average.
STAR begins each year in
participating high schools
throughout Georgia when the
STAR student is named and
chooses a STAR teacher to
share in this recognition. The

students and their teachers are
honored by their schools and
receive special recognition in
their communities from more
than 165 statewide civic orga¬
nizations and businesses that
serve as local sponsors of the
STAR program. Students then
compete for school system titles,
and those winners compete for
region honors. Region winners
compete for the honor of being
named State PAGE STAR
Student.
“We are very proud of Ms.
Baldree and Mr. Hedgpeth and
the academic excellence they
exemplify at Peach County High
School," said PCHS Principal
Bruce Mackey. Rhianna has
worked very hard and been an
outstanding student for nearly
four years here. It is great to
see her tradition of academic
accomplishments acknowl
edged and even more exciting
to see where she will continue
her path of academic achieve¬
ment. Mr. Hedgpeth has been
a vital contributor of this high
school’s educational founda¬
tion and has provided a solid
base for the academic success
of PCHS students for the past
five years. We can never thank
him enough for his many years
of service to both our country
prior to teaching and to this
community so I really appreci¬
ate Rhianna choosing him so
that he can receive this much
deserved honor. They are both
truly shining STARS at PCHS”
The mission of the PAGE
Foundation is to recruit,
develop, retain and recognize
outstanding teachers for all
Georgia students. STAR is one
of several programs of academ¬
ic excellence sponsored by the
Foundation. Other academic
competitions include the PAGE
Georgia Academic Decathlon
(GAD) and the PAGE Academic
Bowl for Middle Grades.
Through its sponsorship of
Future Educators Association of
Georgia (FEA Georgia). Student
Professional Association of
Georgia Educators (SPAGE),
PAGE Foundation Scholarships
and professional learning, the

recruit capable people to the
teaching profession and provide
career-long professional learn¬
