The 5th grade students at Byron Elementary School participated in “Read the Most" and Dr. Seuss' birthday on March 2nd. They
were allowed to dress up as a character from any book. In their reading class, they read books and took A.R. tests as active participants
in “Read the Most " The two best dressed students from each homeroom were given a free pass to visit the Go Fish Education Center in
Perry, Georgia. Thank you Mrs. Nancy McEver for providing the free passes!!

The PCHS Symphonic Band,
under the direction of Mr.
Darren Johnson, earned its 5th
consecutive highest State rating
Westfield School Literary Team Clinches 2012
GISA AAA State Literary Championship

The Westfield School
Literary Team clinched
the 2012 GISA AAA State
Literary Championship in the
March 14th competition held
at Valdosta State College. The
Literary Team also was named
2012 GISA 3AAA Region
Overall Champions during the
region competition held earlier

2012 District XI GMEA State
High School Band Evaluation on
Saturday, March 10th at Baldwin

ratings for recruitment purpos¬
es, In addition, these ratings
must be submitted when bands
apply to perform at prcstigous
events.
The Band students will
receive medals in recognition of
their tremendous accomplish¬
ment.
Mr. Darren Johnson, Director,
would like to thank the students
for their outstanding work, band
parents, the PCHS administra¬
tion. and Mrs. Deana Carlson,
Fine Arts Academy Leader,
for their support. Lastly, Mr.
Johnson would like to thank
our Music Coordinator Mr.
Randolph Lindsey. Mr. Leonard
Giles.FVSU Music Professor
and Ms Pamela Bouyer for their
outstanding assistance.
Faculty coaches for the Literary
Team are Jean Floyd, Pam
Pierce, Shelley Sanderson, and
Kathy Stubbs. Pam Pierce serves
as the Literary Coordinator.
“A state championship is a
wonderful example of how hard
work pays off," said Sanderson.

“Literary Music students have
been meeting at 7:15 in the
morning before school, as well
as in class rehearsals and after
school rehearsal for months.
The went into the region and
state competitions with confi¬
dence and really showed the
best of what Westfield has to
offer. I am so proud of each of
them."

Literary requires both talented,
hardworking students and dedi¬
cated coaches. I am grateful for
faculty members, Kathy Stubbs.
Shelley Sanderson, and Jean
Floyd who worked diligently to
prepare our team for competi¬
tion."

Announces William Carroll
As New Head Of School

The Westfield School has
named William Carroll as its
next Head of School. His ap¬
pointment will begin July 1,
2012. Carroll is currently Head
of the Upper School at Bayside
Academy in Daphne. Alabama.
He follows Rachel Deems who
has accepted the position as
Head of School at Spartanburg
Day School in Spartanburg.
South Carolina.

William Carroll’s experience
and leadership to Westfield.”
said Colton Sexton, Chair¬
man of the Westfield Board of
Trustees. “His experience as a
school administrator, coupled
with his background as a class¬
room teacher and faculty mem¬
ber, provides an excellent set of
skills and abilities to lead our
school into the future.
Carroll has over 20 years of
experience in education. As
Head of the Upper School at
Bayside since 2005, he has pro¬
vided leadership for the school’s
academic program, as well as
taught Advanced Placement
level courses. Prior to his cur¬
rent position at Bayside. he was
a faculty member at T he Mont¬
gomery Academy in Montgom¬
ery. Alabama, and at Craigtnont
High School in Memphis, Ten¬
nessee. Additionally, Carroll
worked as an associate attor¬
ney for a general practice law
firm in Centreville. Alabama.
He earned his Master of Educa-

The ladles of Gamma PI Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa
Alpha Sorority, Inc. will celebrate their 70th Chapter
Anniversary on Saturday, March 24th. The Jazz Brunch
will begin at 10:00 AM at the C. W. Pettigrew Center on
the campus of the Fort Valley State University. The Fori
Valley State University Jazz Band will be featured. Attire
for the event Is dressy and tickets are $25.00 with $5.00
per ticket benefiting the FVSU Music Department. For

Carroll and his wife. Laura,
are active members of Hastem
Shore Presbyterian Church.
William is currently serving
as a church officer and Laura
has served as a Sunday School
teacher. The Carrol Is have three
children. Ella, JB, and Georgia,
ages 8,5. and 3.

Trustees, we extend our appre¬
ciation to Mrs. Deems for her
leadership, service, and dedi¬
cation to Westfield for the past
four years, and in wishing her
success in her new position. Her
assistance to the search com¬
mittee in the search process has
helped to insure that we identi¬
fied a next Head of School who
will continue working toward
Westfield’s mission of providing
a premier college preparatory
education in a Christian envi¬
ronment." Sexton said. "The
transition of leadership is under¬
way, and we are confident that
Westfield will benefit greatly
from the experience, knowl¬
edge. and cooperative work of
these two educators. The Board
of Trustees owes a debt of

Search Committee for their time
