The site is familiar to genera¬

Shrimp Boat. For years, the
odor of frying sea food wafted
up and down Carver Drive in
back of the college campus.
Now, thanks to Linda and

will replace the fried fish smell.
The site at 406 Carver Drive

Old Flea Market Has Hew Owners
By Victor Kulkosky

You want penguins? Roger
and Shirley Dunn have a bag
full.
Joni Mitchell fan? Melba
Moore? Black Sabbath? Crosby
Stills Nash and Young?
They’ve got the records, as a
well as a permanent Christmas
section, racks of retro ties, every
imaginable kind of flower pot,
books, old magazines (gotta
have National Geographic), used
furniture - “No junk!” Shirley
insists art work, clothes,
Samsonite hard-shell luggage -
a favorite of traveling bands that
need to protect equipment - and
all the assorted knick-knacks
and uncategorizable stuff you
find at a flea market.
Where is this flea market?
In Fort Valley, where it’s been
for 16 years. The Dunns, who
have an antiques store and an
indoor flea market in Reynolds,
recent bought Felro’s Flea
Market, on Highway 49 near the
by-pass.
“I’m amazed how many
people didn’t know there was a
flea market right here,” Shirley
said during an informal tour of
the shop.
The Dunns have been in
clean-up mode. Former owner
Felton Spinks had been ill for
a long time and unable to keep
the business up. They recently

new, multi-pronged approach.
How do you do more with
the same, or possibly fewer
resources?
“It comes with planning,”
said Ezell, whose orderly office
houses several stacks of thick
binders.
KRES and the other Peach
schools do a lot of collabora¬
tive teaching and teaming, so
that individual teachers aren't
stretched too thin. ESOL (for
non-native English speakers)
and Special Education in par¬
ticular are done cotlaboratively,
md the early intervention teach¬
ing is often collaborative.
And then there's that system
wide focus on data

While open to the public, Roger
and Shirley are continuing to
sort out the old inventory and
arrange the shelves and racks.
Roger and Shirley have been
in the flea market/antiques/
auction business for about
10 years. It’s an unpredict¬
able business that offers daily
adventure and the promise of
discovery.
“I like meeting people,”
Shirley said. “You meet some
wonderful people in the flea

She’s met only a handful of

As with every Peach County
school, KRES has its Date
Room, which houses data on
each and every student, so
teachers and administrators
have one central place to go to
find all the numbers they need
for each child.
To emphasis things that go
beyond statistics, KRES has
incentives to encourage good
behavior and attendance. The
school has a campaign called

to act right as well as add

demonstrate those WINGS
qualities are recognized every

“I can tell morals and val¬
ues have been taught at home,”
Ezell said, and she thanked par¬
ents for their contributions.
“We appreciate their sup¬
port,” Ezell said. “It's a biggie.”
In her few months at the helm
of KRES. Ezell has so far had
the help she needs in facing
some complex challenges.
“I've truly been blessed to
work with a great faculty and
staff," Ezell said. They know
to do their jobs and 1 don't have

That helps Angela Ezell lead
the team that has a straightfor¬

to meet.
“We should see some growth
in every child who steps through
the doors.” Ezell said. That's
our expectation.
