HAPPENINGS Peach County
CLCPfUTERACY
EDUCATION POR ADULTS
IN PEACH INC.
Did you know that there
is a new vision in Georgia?
Beverly E. Smith, Assistant
Commissioner for the
Technical College System of
Georgia, has created a new
vision - Workforce for Georgia;
Future for Families. This new
emphasis is in line with the
current trends of our economy
and our world. A vibrant work¬
force will afford a brighter
future for families and it all
starts with education. Adults
without a diploma can play
a vital role in jump starting
the economy if they will take
the next step and earn a GED
diploma. There are businesses
and industries that would love
to make Peach County home,
if we can produce a skilled
workforce for them.
L.E.A.P., your business, gov¬
ernment, community nonprofit
organization encourages all
high school students to stay in
school and earn a high school
diploma. However, if this does
not happen, enrolling in an
Adult Education Program will
give you a second chance to
receive a diploma, a General
Educational Development
(GED) diploma. The Adult
Education Center in Fort
Valley is located at 700 Spruce
Street, Wing B (478) 825-9072
and in Byron. 202 Moseley
Rd. (478 ) 956-7621. Free
day and evening classes are
taught weekly by Middle GA
Technical College instrue
tors. Adult Basic Education
(ABE), English as a Second
Language (ESL), and General
Educational Development
(GED) preparation classes are
a few of the classes that are
offered.
Let’s embrace the new
vision and begin preparing
a skilled workforce in Peach
County which will afford a
brighter future for all fami¬
lies. For more information
about how you can help, call
the L.E.A.P. Office, (478) 925
