NEW COODS FOR THE SPRING TRADE!
My stock of Clothing, Shirts, Hats and Shoes were never so complete
as now. I dare say such a stock of bran new, fashionable goods were
never before shown in Dallas. I advertise no prices on these goods,
but that part of the program need not trouble you for they are marked
down to the last notch, and they are yours if you want ’em.
For the next ninety days we expect to
do a big business. And why not?
Mine is the only strictly dry goods store
in this section, and the territory is large,
but I am ably prepared to meet the de
mand. I want you to come and exam
ine this stock. You will find it just as I
have stated. Come early and see these beautiful goods. All welcome.

Child Slaves.
One of the worst features of
the coal regions is the employ
ment of child labor. The laws
of Pennsylvania forbid the em
ployment of boys under twelve
or of girls under thirteen, years oi'
age. Nevertheless thousands of
children younger than these ages,
some as young as seven years are
employed ; the boys at the hreak-
err and the girls in the stocking
factories. All that.is necessary to
protect the mining companies is
for the child’s parents to make
affidavits that he is over twelve,
or if a girl, that she is more than
thirteen. The-parents, however,
do not hesitate to commit perjury
in order to help out their scanty
income witli the pittance of 40 or
SOJuentsja day earned by the cluld-
uoi.
At the breakers t he broken coal
passes over large revolving sieves
.wul before-these the children sit
1or ion hours each day picking
slate,, rock, and dirt from the coal
ijt passes before them. For
this work they receive from 40 to
80 cents a day according to Jagc.
Tho work is hard and the build
ings are icy cold in the winter.
These children never get any
schooling.
The girls are sent to work in
tho stocking factories. They are
paid by the piefie and can earn
from .$1.50 to$8.00 a week. These
children are stunted both in body
and in mind. The only hope for
them sebins to he sufficient wages
for their parents so that it. will
not he necessary for them to
work.—Ex.
