LAND COMPANY OROANIZED.
The Dallas Land and Improve
ment company wits organized at
the court house Tuesday after
noon.
This organization comes of the
necessity for a farward move
ment for the general upbuilding
of the town and county.
Our enterprising citizens are
thoroughly awake to the situa
tion and realize tlio danger of
the curelessness which has here
tofore been so prevalent.
This is the second meeting of
The Dallas Land and Improve-'
ment company, and already!
more enthuiusm lias been infus
ed into its ranks than any meet,
iug of its kind ever before start
ed.
Ool. A. J. Camp was elected
president, and Mr. F, P, Hudson
selected as secretary.
This company will be capital
ized, a charter applied for, stock
issued and will be known as
business organisation.
The New York American
calls upon the country to let
tnc south alone, in its efforts
to solve the negro question.
An exchange makes this
truthful statement about the
councilmen of one town, which
applies to most all towns: “First
we swear them in and then
we cuss them out.”
The grand jury in Clarke
■county recommended, at its
recent session, that bonds to
the amount of $100,000 be is
sued and the money used to
macadamize the public roads
of the county.
A bed of coal worth one
thousand million dollars, and
large enough to give employ
ment to 6ooo men for 200
years, was found in Pennsyl

April nth.
SEVEN NEW ROUTES.
Local News.
This is a pulling age, and
the town that is not up and
-about, working for business,
and encourageing develop
ment in every possible way is
.•1 town that is taking very
poor care of its opportunities.
It the confederate veterans
cannot march to the music of
negros, says the Macon Tele
graph, at New Orleans it is
not because their fathers ever
refused to dunce to the music
of negro fiddlers on the old
plantation.
According to the Washing
ton Reporter,the Wilkes coun
ty mule has a hard lite. He
plows all the week on a peck
of corn, and is driven all day
Sunday on less. The average
life of Wilkes county males
i* three years.
ILLINOIS NEOROES.
Some of the latest news
from the north tends to con
firm the stmement made by
Pr. Lyman Abbott that the
south is the best place for the
negro.
In Illinois the citizens of a
small town, after lynching a
negro whohadassulted a child
turned loose with fire arms on
a colony of unoffending blacks
and wounded several of them.
It was not alleged that
these other negroes were guil
ty of any crime or misdemean
or. From the press reports
it appears that the mob just
shot them down because they
were black.
The blood lust was stronger
yesterday in Illinoise than in
Indiana. Indiana will have
to look to it or she will lose
some of her well-earned lau
rels in the matter of letting
negro blood. Illinois is forg
ing ahead.
No negro lives were taken
in Indiana yesterday. It seems
to have been a rather quiet
Sunday all thortigh the Hoosier
State. One negroj was whip
ped with bard wiie.
We of Georgia, who get
along with our negroes pretty
well on the whole, and cer
tainly nevere make an unwar
ranted wholesale attack on a
colony of them just because
they are black, do earnestly
pray that this bittpr blood-lust
that galls the heart of Illinois
will pass away. — .Atlanta
