A FOOLHARDY PRACTICE.
The Gaffney, S. C., Ledger ex
presses onr sentiments in the
following editorial:
For some years there has been a
tende ncy on the part of people of
giving or participating in public
performances to run hazardous
risks in order towin the applause
of the populace, and the risks are
many and varied. It appears
that the spectacle of a man “loop
ing the loop” on a bicycle is no
longer sufficiently thrilling to
suit the crowd, and some new
sensation involving perils to hu
man life is demanded. To sup
ply this deficiency a young man
in Indianapolis the other day
tried to make the circuit of the
loop on a pair of roller skates.
In order to bring his center of
gravity close to the point of con
tact be had constructed a Dair of
skates weighing 100 pounds. But
even with this aid the chances
were infinitely against him, for
by placing the greatest, weight
at the base of the tall column
presented bv his frame lie lessen
ed his opportunity,.for balancing.
So when lie was making a trip be
lost bis poise when at the highest
point of the loop and fell to the
ground, his fckull' being crushed.
He died shortly afterward. There
are many varieties of this life-
risking performances now on
view, all of which should be pro
nounced illegal and prohibited.
They add nothing to the public
knowledge, (trul the entertain
ment they afford is nerve rack
ing and productive af an abnor
mal taste for horrors.

“Young man,” remarked the
self-made person, “l began life

Weak
Hearts
Are due tQ indigestion. Ninety-nine of every
one hundred people who have heart trouble
can remember when it was simple indiges
tion. It is a scientific fact that all cases of
heart disease, not organic, are not only
traceable to. but are the direct result of indi
gestion. All food taken Into the stomach
which fails oi perfect digestion ferments and
swells the stomach, puffing it up against the
heart. This interferes with the action of
the heart, and in the course of time that
delicate but vital organ becomes diseased.
