Educational Rally.
There was a large crowd
present at Friendship last Sat
urday to hear speeches from
the teachers and others on
educational topics. Our hearts
was made sad to see that nine-
tenths of the congregation was
composed of young people.
It reminded us of a visit to the
Orphans home, at Decatur.
Are all the men in that section
dead or did they go to mill or
fishing last Saturday ?
Well, the rally was a suc
cess anyway, and we are proud
that the young people are in
terested in the educational
question of the day if their
daddies are not.
We had speeches from Prof.
P. H. Campbell, Prof. Wof
ford Cole, J. B. McBrayer,
Prof. W. A. Wheeler, and Prof.
Ira W. Williams.
Prof. Williams is principal
of the unique school at Sand
Hill, Ga. He is a graduate of
the State University, and is
giving his life for the good of
the children of Sand Hill.
. Only a few days ago he
was offered $125.00 to accept
a position at Griffin for the
coming school year, but he is
giving his time and talent for
less money to the people of
his native county.
Prof. Williams’ speech was
full of logic. Among the
many good things he said
that when Sand Hill school
needed anything the patrons
were always willing to take
the money from their Dockets
and pay for it. Recently they
bought a cooking range and
their daughters are learning to
cook. O, blessed thought, for
the men of Georgia, and hap
py will be the man who will
be fortunate enongh to win the
heart and hand of the young
lady who has learned to cook
from those trained teachers of
Sand Hill.
In conclusion we will say
that if Prof. Williams evex*
wants to make a change and
will work for what the county
pays we cordially invite him
to come to Paulding county.
