We Come Again.
Editor New Bra:
I have' read with a great
deal of' jnterest and admi
ration the letters from your
country cousins published in
last week’s issue of your val
uable paper. They all bring
tokens of great satisfaction
because they show that the
country precinU are greatly
improving iu many particu
lars, and the more especially
in a sentiment of social inter
course.
I dropped out a week with
our letter from the capitol be
cause we failed to get a copy
of our letter which was pub
lished. $0 we hesitated in
writing again before we
learned if that article hit the
waste basket or missed it.
Now, dear cousins from the
country, I don’t know what I
am to tell you about the Capi
tol’s happenings tor the past
week, however, our new city
“dads” have taken up the
gauntlet of our city’s admin
istration since we last wrote
and if they will continue as
they have started out all bids
fair that we will have, a better
and cleaner and a more fruit
ful administration.
Our new marshal has taken
hold of his newly acquired
toga with a tenacity which
bids fair to equal that of any
hull-hog which ever barked at
the moon for entertainment
and consolation. Now, what
this newly alected city-dad
-affair will do with these lit
tle blind tigers up here re
mains yet to be seen. If there
is no legislation against the
confo\indid ■ little critters we
hope at least- they will treat
then as Rev. Sam Jpnes treat
ed them in Cartersville last
week and that some of them
will come out, at least with
a black blind eye. Let the
little tigers come out of their
dens, for there are many of
them here, and after all they
are not so blind as you might
think. The liquor that is sold
here in Dallas is as poison, as
the bite of a rattlesnake to a
human system, but still a day
never cjmes but that it is
dished out, and men seen to
reel and stagger all over the
street. City “dads” if you are
going to allow liquor to be
sold from a dozen stores in
Dallas, daily, why not do as
they have done in Rome? Do
away with them all and estab
lish a dispensary where pure
and un adulterated “stuff” may
be obtained.
Yell dispensary and every
preacher in this country barks
like a belabored hound be
neath his masters lash, but
from three to five places
where liquor may be obtained
in any .amount in the day runs
open handed all the time and
not one of these pulpit orators
open their mouth or raise
hand in defense of the society
from these same pusillanimous
blind tiger dens. Consistency
then out a jewel for to be sure.
Dallas is on the improve,
and at this time has a splen
did public school overseered
by a noble teacher, and if
everybody don’t go to school
and get an education it is the
fault of the people themselves,
that is the parent. The child
neither work nor go to school,
but are allowed to loaf and
pilfer, and you may feat as
sured that they are |he ones
which will be overtaken- by
the vagrancy law. r Trieir fath
er and mothers are too Pusil
lanimous to live and the ^va
grancy law ought to take them
m charge instead of their off-
spting. 'J
I am one who believes child
ren ought to be mad«4o work
every day of their lives or . go
to school one. Yours for tne
week at the. Capitol.
