New Caanan.
The general health of this
place is very good just at
present.
“Aunt” Susie Parris is
still suffering with rheuma
tism.
“Uncle” Jim Summerhill is
out again after a very bad
spell.
Sunday school was very
well attended here last Sun
day. Rev. Brown, who was
to preach at' 11 o’clock, sent
Rev. Posey Wigley to fill the
appointment. His sermon
was enjoyed by the congrega
tion.
Mrs. Frances Bruce visited
the family of G. B. Turner
Sunday.
Mr. Pete Argo and family
visited the family of his fath-
er-iu-law Sunday.
A number of our young
people attended the all-day
singing at New Hope Sunday.
The work on the church is
expected to be done by asso
ciation time. All that is nec
essary is some tall hustling.
The Sunday school will be
found in the front rank. We
don’t take a back seat when
there is work to do.
Pretty soon representatives
of the school will call on the
members and friends of the
the church, not for what they
can spare, but for all they
can give. They wont have
long to tarry, so ease them off
with a large “hunk” quick.
Pay cash if you can, but if
you can’t just say how much
you will give in the fall, so
we we will know how to plan.
We will positively not accept
more than the price of one
bale of io-cent cotton from
any one man, and please don’t
asic us to do it.
Prof. Bradford Stokely open
ed his school at Wheelan
Monday.
Prof. J. H. Crayton will
likely commence his singing
here on the fourth Monday.
Misses Leila Ragsdale and
Lizzie Baker’s scheme with
the church quilt has raised
about $16.00. Good! Go,
thou, and do likewise.
Come to prayer meeting
next Sunday.
Crow5vllle.
iVe have had a lot of rain
recently.
T. C. Lackey has the larg
est cotton we have seen.
Jake Hite is getting weaker
slowly.
Esquire H. N. Revelie is not
doing as as he was two weeks
ago.
Miss Callie Prather will be
gin her school at the Morris
school house the second Mon
day.
Amburse Kennedy visited
relatives in Cartersville last
week.
Mrs. J. P. Cape is visiting
in South Carolina.
Mr. and Mrs. Tom Prather,
of Acworth, were out to see
John Prather and family last
week.
Miss Jennie Grogan has
been visiting her grandfather,
D. D. Grogan near Acworth.
Rev. J. L. Brown will
preach at Cross Roads church
at eleven o’clock the fourth
Sunday.
Bent Her Double.
“I knew no one, for four weeks
when 1 was sick with typhoid
and kidney trouble,” writes Mrs.
Annie Hunter, of Pittsburg;, Pa.
“and when 1 got better, although
I had one of the best doctors I
could get, I wasbent double, and
had to rest my hands on my
knees when I walked. From
this terrible affliction I was res
cued by Electric Bitters, which
restored my health and strength,
and now I can walk as straight as
ever. They are simply wonder
ful.” Guaranteed to cure stom
ach, liver and kidney disorders;
at Cooper’s drug store; price 60c.
Braswell.
We are happy on the way
with plenty of rain every day.
Mr. Reese is now very hap
py—a 14 pound boy. Mr.
Mitchel also has a fine boy.
Uncle Burt Elsberry, of
Yorkville, was among friends
here Sunday.
R. H. O’Neal is putting up
a wind-mill at J. J. William’s
saw mill to blow shavings and
saw dust away.
The way the railroads are
treating Hoke Smith and his
friends will make Hoke more
friends.
J. R. Camp has returned
home from Henry Ellen Ala.,
where he has been railroad
ing.
Ivy Hulsy fell off the work
train the other day and broke
his collar bone.
Wisdom Whispers.
The worth of a man general
ly can be estimated by the
things he talks about doing,
but never does so.
Men would find more satis
faction in life were they to
leave out the “ifs” and the
“blits.”
Don’t place too much confi
dence in the woman who lets
you into her family affairs.
A man may have plenty of
friends and yet not be able to
get much in the direction of
favors.
When a woman is in mour
ning she has fear of her attire
being talked about.
There is something sus
picious about the man who is
a chronic smiler or a profes
sional liand-shaker.
When a woman has had her
say she feels like apologizing
thereof.
Men talk enough about am
bition to be thoroughly famil
iar with what it means.
The success f u 1 w o in a n
whose start in life was humble
strives to forget the fact.
The reputation a man
makes is due entirely to his
own actions.
A woman says ugly things,
apologizes and then proceeds
to forget the incident.
Too much humility creates
a suspicion of an overplus of
conceit.
The man who refuses to
grant a loan earns the reputaj
tion of being mean.
Many can be found willing
to share your joy if your sor
rows are kept under cover.
If you .don’t know what you
are discussing cut the argu
ment short.
There are enough opportu
nities in an humble way to
put us all in the hero ranks.
When stern reality faces
sentiment it should not be
difficult to decide which way
to move.
The character which is read
in the face is not always to be
taken as a safe thing to trust
to.
