The insurance companies used
to make a great deal of fuss over
the “risks’' that they took. In
view of present, develomeuts, the
policy holder probably will think
that lie is the one who is taking
the risks.

manly not servile. The pop
ular idea among pupils and
even with many parents that
only the “goody-goody” are
obedient should be dynamited.
General Lee is said to have
graduated at West Point af
ter four years of severe drill
and discipline without re
ceiving one demerit. He was
not a weak, vacilating, cow
ardly, ignorant man. In his
tory he shines as the highest
type of character produced by
the world’s best civilization.
Revelation emphasizes the
importance that God places
upon obedience. Legisla
tures, congresses, parliaments,
and reichstags are useless and
society is perpetual chaos, un
less obedience prevails. The
idea that every boy must sow
wild oats is an abominable
heresy. The idea that he
must suffer evil to know and
appreciate good is rotten to
the core. Must a boy blacken
his character and name by
lying, theft, impunity, drunk
enness, to become honest,
pure and sober? Must he
have smallpox or scarlet fever
or diptheria to enjoy the
blessings of health?
Impress upon the pupils,
that God and man, teaching
in history and daily experi
ence, exalt obedience to posi
tions of highest honor and
power, but place disobedience
under the ban of public con
tempt in chains, and in the
penitentiary.—W. M. Slaton.

^Spain lost the Phihpines, but
acquired $20,000,000 of good
American gold dollars. France
wanted to let go of the Panama
canal. She succeeded, and at the
same time relieved Uncle Sam of
$40,000,000 more. The latter
now linds that both the Philip
pines and the canal are costing
him,a mighty lot of worry, while
Spain and Frauce are entirely
.content with their bargains.

The people aught to let Gordon
ee go to Congress long enough
i see what is in him. Give him
i opportunity at least to show
is ability before talking »bou5

PEACH SHIPMENTS OVER.
The shipment of Elberta
peaches from this section is
practically over, says the Ma
rietta journal. Some 219 cars
have been shipped from Ma
rietta. The first shipments
were not as remunerative as
was expected, owing to a
crowded market, but the last
shipments brought fancy
prices, some cars bringing
$1,150 and $1,200 each. Up
on the whole the crop has
yielded well and some money
has been made. Probably
$200,000 has been realized on
the crop at this point.
A large number of small
growers sold their crop at the
start at $1 per crate delivered
at the depot and they all
made money.
The peach crop is like cot
ton, supply and demand con
trols, and it fluctuates in price
about as bad.
Fruit raising is a good
thing for this section and
gives a large number employ
ment and distributes a vast
deal of cash among the peo
ple.
The cotton crop comes
next, and it, too, puts cash in
circulation.
After all this is a very fa
vored section. Diversifica-
tioh of crops is the thing.

Hume, the historian, found

“The greatest good to the great

the greatest number?” continued
Lord John Russell. “Number
