The corn crop in Iowa it a
record breaker.
People in a flat always have
a piano because there is no room
for it.
The Oalifornia orange crop is
reported to be one of^tlie largest
ever known.
With cotton a good price, corn
a plenty, hay a plenty, potatoes
a plenty, the farmers of Pauld
ing are in a prosperous condition.
Most of the folks who are "on
top" are there because they
learned, very early in life, to
work whether they felt like it or
not.
The Atlanta Journal says that
Olark Howell’s attitude on the
railroad question is similar to a
very humble bug which looks one
way and pushes the other.
The citizens of the Gate City
are talking of holding an indus
trial exposition in 1010. Atlan
ta look* far in *the future, and
generally succeeds in all she un
dertakes.
The council of Villa Rica has
passed an ordinance prohibiting
merrv-go-reunds from doing busi
ness in that town. We think
they did right.”All suoh things
are very demoralizing.
It is a sad thing to begin life
witli a low conception of it. It
may not be possible foi a young
man to measure life; but it is
possible to say, "I am resolved
to put life to its noblest use."
The enthusiasm with which
Hoke Smith was received in
Dublin on his recent visit should
cause those who ‘try” to think
his boom is on the wane to
“think" again, or else read some
other papers than the Howell or
gans.—LaG range Reporter.
Bro. Gibson, of the Rockmart
Courier, in an earnest appeal to
his subscribers to pay up oilers to
accept from those who can’t pay
the money, wood, pine, corn,
meat, meal, flour, chickens, Wit
ter, eggs, potatoes, turnips,
pumpkins, sorghum and dried
fruit.
New York City has another ex
citing race on for mayor, Mc
Clellan as the Tammany candi
date, Ivins as the republican -
nominee, and W. R. Hearst as
the municipal ownership candi
date. The republicans are not
in it, but Hearst has developed
such a tremendous following that
Tammany is alarmed over the
outlook. All labor organizations
are strongly for Hearst,
There is a feeling of sincere
gratification in all parts of the
7th district that a man of Judge
Fite’s ability and experience is
to enter the race for congress.
The average voter cares little for
the sentiment of courtesy or past
custom in regard to the number
ot terms a congressman shall
serve. The point with him is to
get the most capable and eificient
man.—Cartersville News.
But is it the “custom” to begin
rooting at a public servant be
fore he has taken the oath of of
fice? We do not know what we
have in an officer until he is giv
en an ^opportunity to show his
ability.—Bremen Gateway.
5IX HUNDRED BALES.
In our last issue we inadver
tently published that Dallas re
ceived four hundred bales of
cotton on Tuesday, Oct. 24th.
Without investigation we insert
ed what we heard, and later
some one reminded us that we
were badlv in error. We now
employ this method to state that
the number of bales received in
Dallas on the above mentioned
day was a little in excess of six
hundred, which means that the
farmers received more than $80,-
000 for cotton on that date.
The farmers and • trading pub
lic are rapidly learning that Dal
las is not only the best cotton
market in this part of the coun
try, but the best and 'cheapest
place to buy their supplies.
While Tuesday was a record
breaker every day brings its
hundreds^of bales here, where
the highest price is paid and the
fairest weights given.
At the cotton mill warehouse a
force of eight or ten men is re
quired to keep the cotton back
from the weighers.
But few people are entirely free
from indigestion at this season of the
year. Kodol Dyspepsia Cure 1s not
only the best remedy to use because
It digests what, you eat but because
It also enables the digestive appara
tus to assimilate and transform all
foods Into Issue-building blood- Ko

belching, and all form of indigestion.
At Cooper’s
Ralph Bingham.
Mr. ltalgh Bingham, the noted
entertainer, appeared in our city
last Friday evening and com
pletely capitated the largost au
dience ever assembled at a simi
lar occasion. The program was
intently interesting from the
opening to the close, not a mo
ment lagged, and every feature
of the program was loudly ap
plauded. Humor prevailed—he
only infused enough pathos to
occasionally relieve the acking
sides of the audience.
His music, violin and piano,
and singing were easily the best
ever heard in Dallas.
All who had the pleasure of
hearing Mr. Bingham were lavish
in their words of praise and
rightly pronounce him the peer
of monologue entertainers.
The promoters of the present
Lyceum course can rest assured
that if all their numbers are the
equal of Mr. Bingham’s enter-
ment, it is already an assured
success.
Consumption
There is no specific for
consumption. Fresh air, ex
ercise, nourishing food and
Scott's Emulsion will come
pretty near curing it, if there
is anything to build on. Mil
lions of people throughout die
world are living and in good
health on one lung.
9 From time immemorial the
doctors prescribed cod liver,
oil for consumption. Of
course the patient could not
take it in its old form, hence
it did very little good. They
. can take
SCOTT’S
EMULSION
and tolerate it for a long
time. There is no oil, not
excepting butter, so easily
digested and absorbed by the
system as cod liver oil in the
form of Scott’s Emulsion,
and that is the reason it is so
helpful in consumption where
its use must be continuous.

Fall Announcement.
A
I wish to say to my friends and customers
that at the commencement of this season I
am better prepared to give the public greater
values than I have been in the past. Why?
Because such articles as Outings, Flannelletts,
AAA Sheeting, Checks, Men and Women’s
heavy Underwear, Canton Flannels, Blankets,
Men, Women and Children’s Winter Shoes,
and various other articles 1 bought very
heavily of during the spring months to be
shipped out in the fall, and am now ready to
give my customers the benefit of the low
prices; and common sense and reason need no
explanation that Dry Goods and Shoes bought
in the spring are from 10 to 25 per cent cheap
er shan you can buy them now! All I ask the
trading public is to call and examine my en-
tire stock of Dry Goods, Shoes, Underwear,
Ladies and Misses Jackets, Men’s and Boys
Suits and Pants. I carry a big line of Mens
and Boys Hats and Caps, Trunks and various
other articles that you neeed every day.
I will not quote any prices in this announce
ment for I don’t consider a person cares any-
thingabout the price of an article until they
examine it in regard to quality and not quan
tity. I might throw out a few cheap prices as
catchers, but I believe the people are pretty
well educated in that line and ail I ask is to
call and examine my line as to price and.qual-
ity, and 1 am willing to leave the result with
you. Thanking you for past favors, 1 am
Yours ever ready and willing to serve,
IV. M. Hitchcock.
