NE MAN FOUND out
that when he owed
other people he paid
them somehow, lie
he decided *to owe
himself money—one
dollar the first week,
two dollars the sec-
, three dollars the third, and
so on to the tenth week. Then
he drops back to a dollar.
As fast as he collects his
debts from hlmsilf he puts the
money in the bank.
Each ten-weeks term puts
him ahead $55.00.
No one can so inspire a man to
noble purposes as a noble woman,
and no one so thoroughly de-
grades a man as a wife of on*
worthy tendencies.
The table in the home is the
test of character. If there is a
disagreeable one in the family,
the disagreeableness shows itself
at the table. There the children
show whether they are selfish or
sacrificing, oolite or impolite.
Table manners reflect the condi
tion of the home.
The greatest blessing that ever
came to this nation is that of an
elevated literature. The print
ing press is the mightiest agency
on earth for good and for evil.
Standing as we do chin deep in
fictitious literature, is the most
favorable sign among our readers
that this department is so highly
appreciated by a majority of
them. The good influence of a
moral newspaper in our midst
will live long after the editor has
passed to his reward.

'Dr. Miles’ Anti-Pain Pills
are a most remarkable remedy;
for the relief of periodic pains,
{backache, nervous or sick head
ache, or any of the distress
ing aches and pains that cause
women so much suffering.
As pain is weakening, and
leaves the system in an ex
hausted condition, it is wrong
to suffer a moment longer than
necessary,' and you should take
the Anti-Pain Pills on first in
dication of an attack.
If taken as directed you may
have entire confidence in their
effectiveness, as well as in the
fact that they will leave no dis
agreeable after-effects.
[They contain no morphine,*
opium, chloral, cocaine or other
dangerous drugs.

PLEASANT MEMORIES.
About the only thing that we
can take with us on that joarney
that lies ahead of each one is our
memories. And, as in so many
other things in life, the thing
that is of such great importance
to us is the thing that is entirely
beyond our control.
We may plan to have a delight
ful summer but disease and
trouble may pile up about Us,
until the world is black with
misery. We may plan to visit a
friend, with the brightest hopes
lyiknd anticipations and we may

’j^jhome grieved and heartsord, with
memories that will always be
bitterness to us. -
A But there is one thing we can
t r otdo. We can resolve to give to
a then-all the pleasant memories
bat it lies in our power to give.
And many of these things are so
limple. I know of a big six-foot
>, busy with the week’s work,
[who will tell you of a sunny
tricbouth room that is the most won-

Jupthese may' have the pleasant
*£®taetnory that last forever.
But let the words be real, no
pert or sham compliment can
* bver touch the heart. It is the
‘real that we feel and that counts.
But we give pleasant memories
to others, we must be true and
good at heart. We cannot be
selfish, or vain, or deceitful with
out its reaching the surface and
showing there no matter how
muh we trv to conceal it. As a
ship leaves a wake of white foam
behind it, so we leave a wake as
we pass along, but eacliie tinged

HER PRICE.
Every woman has her price,
and she is wjsq who puts it above
rubies. The 1 husband who right
ly babies his wife will not cheap
en her by rough usage, or tarnish
her beauty by requiring the do
mestic duties to be heavier than
she can perform. We know a
couple who have been married
five years, and today the husband
is as choice of his wife as the day
they were married. This spring
she went on a three week’s visit,
taking their little girl and leav
ing him to keep house. He knew
that she would return home worn
out, with her house to house vis
iting. Instead of letting work
pile up, he hired fruit canned
away from home, and canned
three gallons of berries himself,
and did his own washing. A
neighbor baked for him and the
