Time on its rapid awing has again brought onr national Thanksgiving Day close to hand, ana the present month will dodo its career in thanksgiving and praise to "One who doeth all things well.” The most unfortu nate of us can And much to be thankful for if we make an hon est endeavor. While in Russia, men, women and innocent child- red are brutally murdered upon the streets and in their own homes, we are at peace with eaoh other and the world and can wor ship God according to tho dic tates of our own conscience with none to molest us or make us afraid. Our lot has been cast in one among a big-hearted, gen erous people, among school and church advantages. Let us all 6n Thanksgiving Day show our gratitude for the bounties of Frovidence, which have never failed and which grow richer as time passes on. The year just gone has been one which stirs the profoundest depths of Chris tian patriotism. It has been a y^ar of wonderful growth and unexampled prosperity and health, content and happiness. It has been a year in which farms have been fruitful, business pro fitable and in which labor in all forms has been employed and generously rewarded. It is dif ficult to conceive conditions more gratifying then those which sur round the citizens of this com munity. But if we have neither of them we have at any rate a smile with which we oan encourage the' dis heartened. We are to be awarded not ac cording to the greatness of our work, but according to the in dustry with which we employ the talents we possess. We con gratulate all those who are toil ing for the outcasts and the wan dering. Their work will soon be over, but the Influence they are setting in motion will never stop. Long after they have beeni gar nered for the skies their teach ings and Christian influence will go on and help to brighten heav en. On the last great day, would we rather be able to say, "I ad ded house to house, land to land, How Is YourHeart? Is vdur pulse weak, too sldw, too fast, or does it skip a beat? My mbs and body were swollen to one- third larger than normal size, and water had collected around my heart. For at least three months I had to sit propped up In bed to keep from smoth ering. I sent for five bottles of Dr. Miles' Reart Cure, and by the time I had taken them all I was entirely cured. I feel better than I have for twenty yearn, and I am able to do any kina of work -on my farm. OPPORTUNITIKS. Many do with opportunities as children do at the seashore—they fill their little bands with sand, then let the grains fall through, one by one, till they are are all gone. There are four things that never come back—the spok en word, th# 1 sped arrow, the past life and the neglected opportuni ty. How carefully we Bhould speak! How eagerly we should seize every opportunity that comes to us! Are we sitting still, thinking there is nothing to do, and thinking that someone else can do more than we can? Perhaps they can, but that isn’t right. The Scrioture says; ‘‘Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with all thy migt.” Opportunities are the offers of God. Heaven! gives us enough wheu it gives us opportunities. Great opportunities are generally the result of the wise improve meitt of small ones. If we think our opportunities are not good enough, we had better improve them. Remember, we are re sponsible for talents, for time, and for opportunities. As a general rule those who have no opportunities despise small ones, and those who de spise small opportunities never get large ones. Strive to make everyone you come in contact with feel better for having known you, and if there are any shadows in your life you will find them fleeing away as the darkness dis appears at dawn. Ther j is for everyone a field tf cultivate and a harvest to reap If we have worldy means conse crate them to Christ. If we have eloquence use it on the side that Paul and Wilberforcoused theirs. And every member of the family enjoy sharing in the work that is done for all. Child ren may be early taught to per form their share of the work that must be done for mutual comfort and the good of the home, and this training is the best prepara tion they can have to fit them to take their place in the world in after years. They learn sympa thy, forbearance, unselfishness and self-sacrifice, as they live and work and play together, all qualities which will contribute largely to their futue happiness and success iu life. For when they go forth into the great outer world, they will find it but a larger community, where each most make some sacrifice and render some service for the com mon good, which they have learned to do in the little com munity within the home. >y counl when you buy Witch Hazel Salve. We unhesitatingly approv'd of Mr. Lee’s'letter of refusal to meet Judge Fit%on th'jtump it. this time. Mr. Lee has never taken the oath of office, and has had no chance whbtever to dein onatrate his fitness for the place. Give him a chance—Is the cry of all fair-minded people. After Mr. Lee’s return from congress fiext year he will make an active canvass of the district. We think it pre-eminently right, and proper, and believe the peo. pie will agree with ns, to stay the. campaign until Mr. Lee returns from his first term in congress. We are sorry to see the fair name of Mrs. Lee dragged into ( he campaign. She is one of the seventh’s most excellent, conge mal and charitable daughters, and bitterly spnrns the idea of having her good name connected iu any wayr with the campaign, '^hat she inherited a nice for tune is true—and no one could reasonably object to Mr. Lee on that account. To do so, is little and contemptible. Let Mr. Lee stand or fall on his own record. He is amply able to take care of himself. The people will watch with interest the progress Judge Fite makes proving his charges. It seems to a fellow "up a tree’ that the very nature of Judge Fite’s charge involves him in deal. Why should Maddex have let Fite known? It looks very much like Lee just beat the oth er boys to the "tank.”—Summer ville News. Chamberlain’s'Pain Balm. A physician in search of remedies for human ills finds that laughter stands very high in the'list of prophylactics. The effect of mere cheerful ness as a health promoter is well known, but an occasional outburst of downright laugh ter is the heroic remedy. It is a matter of everyday ex perience, says the authority in question, that one feels the better for a good laugh, an explosion of laughter being in truth a "nerve storm, com parable in its effect to a thun derstorm in nature, doing good by dissipating those oppres sive clouds of care which sometimes darken the mental horizon.” This authority as sures us that the memorable adage, "Laugh and grow fat,” rests on a sound philosophical basis. Portly people are' not given to laughter, because they are fat. They are fat because thay laugh.
