Ex-President Grover Cleveland
died suddenly of heart failure
last week.
A confederate monument is be
ing placed in position in Marietta
in the confederate cemetery.
The unveiling will take place
July 7th. Gen. O. A. Evans will
make the address.
Those whoso work uliekl re
quires their early rising, enjoy
the most beautiful part of the
day. The picture of daybreak il
lumining the eastern sky, and
the sun breaking through the
mists of dawn, is one never to be
forgotten, and it is one so illusive
th it painters have tried in vain
a eq lately to put it on canvas.
A simple-hearted and very de
vout country preacher who had
t asted but few of the drinks of
the world, took tinnier with a
high-toned family where a glass
of milk punch was qui.’tly set
down at each plate. In silence
a id happiness the preacher ab-
s u lied the contents of the glass
given him, and then added, ‘‘Ma
dam, you should be very thank
ful lor a cow that will give such
li i milk as this.”
if you want to have a “gi oil
time” and live to a hearty old
age learn to forget some things.
Forget your neighbor’s faults and
your boy’s thoughtlessness. For
get the weak points of your
friends and emphasize the quali
ties you admire in them. For
get all the hateful things you
may have heard by accident.
Forget yesterday’s disagreeables:
don’t carry them over night.
Start out with a clean sheet for
today.
“Affection for children is an
Indian characteristic,” says Dr.
Oha'rles S. Moody, of Idaho. “I
have never seen an Indian moth
er or father punish a child, nor
have I ever seen an Indian, child
cry. An Indian child never sobe
when hurt. Just an extra snap
of the bright black eyes and a
slight frown is all to indicate to
the observer that the little 'fel
low is suffering. I have never
heard even an Indian baby cry.”

“We pledge not only to citi

of other states; that all capital
anvested in legitimate enter
prises in Georgia, whether for

private, shall have the equal pro

friendly consideration of those
who administer the laws.
We believe in the strict con
trol and firm regulation of all
public utility corporations, re
cognizing that, such corporations,
within their proper spheres, are
a positive good and an essential
force in the development of our
country. We favor prescribing
such freight and passenger ratefe
as will be just to the corporation
and to the traveling and shipping
public, and such rules as w’ll
give to shippers expeditious and
safe transportation and quick ad
justment of all claims for over
charge, damage and demurrage,
and to passengers regular sched

modious, well lighted and (in
winter) well heated waiting
rooms with the necessaries for
comfort. To farther insure the
accomplishment of the above
aims we favor the requirement
that the common carriers shall
maintain their roadbeds in safe
condition, and shall provide such
warehouses and other terminal
and way-station facilities as the
expanding commerce of our state
demands. Such public utility
corporations as are purely local
in their operation should be left
to the control of the municipali
ties in which they are located.
