Not be long until the Tax Collector will be hunting you up. Cotton is growing to beat the band, and put ting on some fruit. If cotton brings as much as twenty cents a pound this fall cur farmers will be in the swim. Forsyth county jail is empty. Verily, we have a good county. Two hundred thousand conscripted men will be ordered to the colors on September Ist. Davis, anti-prohibitionist was nominated for governor of Virginia in the primary last Tuesday The legislature has passed a law making the road tax one dollar a day instead of fifty cents as heretofore Ye editor was forty one years young Wednes day, the 15th. Nothing happens this old county will make two million dollars worth of produce this year, and we need it, too. The Neil primary bill, taking the nominations out of the hands of the Convention, has passed and is up to the governor for signature. Although the legislature has been in session about fifty days, it has done practically noth ing except pass a few local bills. A look at the corn fields in this county would make one think that we have already moved the corn belt to this county. “Market Day” held by cities and towns around us are proving very successful both to the farm ers and the merchants. Why not have one in Gumming eveyy now and then. j Practically every local board in the state has had to make the second call for men to get their quota. I l A member of the legisature has introduced a bill to have sessions every two years. If ho would make it twenty five years ithe people would be wifh him. The United States department of Agricul ture has estimated the corn crop for this year te three billion bushels. Now, fellows, that’s some corn. A bill has been introduced in the House of Representatives to remove the capitol from At lanta to Macon. This bill will be treated like the B ft drnk bills which have been introduced. * * 7 One white woman and three negroes were killed and several injured in an accident during the Student Officer practise at Kennesaw last Friday. The Murray county fight has been settled at last. The legislature has passed a law abolish ing the board of County Commissioners in that county. | The legislature has appropriated eight mil lion dollars to pay the expenses of financing the state of Georgia. That’s about two million more than the income from taxes. Just a few more years and we’ll have to call in the boys who figured the frog out of the well when said l'rog was jumping up two feet and falling back three each jump. _4 l_. Court week’s a coming pretty soon, and John Doe is on the hike. The second libery loan will be offered the public this fall. Buy yourself one. The United States is a getting ready to do some big fighting and don’t you forget it. This old county is the garden spot of the world, sure’s you born. Business is brisk in this neck of the woods, and people are feeling good over the crops. More automobiles in this old county than any county of its size in the state. It’s a fact. Picking cotton now in South Georgia. Wont be long until we’ll be gathering the fleecy sta ple here. Mr. L. H. Hope died at his home in Gaines ville recently. He moved from this county a few years ago, and has many relatives here. The North Georgia watermelon, the most de licious fruit in the world, is on the market in plenty. The police of Atlanta arrested a man the other day because he was praying for peace, they thinking him crazy. If ever a man showed good sense we think this man was. It will require 18,867 train coaches to trans fer the drafted men to the different canton ments, and the railroads are busy making prep arations for the government in this line. The kaiser has promised peace in three months. This reminds us of papers we have out several years old, which reads “on Nov. Ist, we promise to pay etc.” Thomas E. Watson and Major McGregor have began a test case on the constitutionality of the draft law. They will get a good fee, and that’s about all it will amount to at this time. Cumming will soon be boasting of a large garage built of brick, and an up-todate new Methodist church building. Both of these are a credit to a town of twice the size, An extra session of the legislature is now the talk. My, when will the people open their eyes, and put men in office who have some re gard for the SState Treasury. It is rumored that W. J. Harris of the Fed eral Trade Commission will be in the race for United States Senator to succedd Hardwick. It’s beginning to look like a man with a chance to win is entering the field. The indictment brought by the grand jury of Dawson county against Thos. H. Montgomery for the shpoting of Claude Whidby, has been transferred to the United States Court in At lanta. The Post Office Department in Washington has revoked the second-cass mailing privilege to the Jeffersonian and Watson’s Magazine. In future all copies will have to be wrapped in a single package and postage paid at the rate of one cent each. While we do not set ourselves up as being] extra smart, yet we do not believe that the Congress and Senate of the United States, fill ed as they are with brainy men and lawyers, would pass a bill that was unconstitutional, es pecially one that means so much expense to the government as the draf law. From The Macon Telegraph. The American dollar is quoted at 86 cents in Geneva. We’d like to contract for a hatful or so at that price. Mr. Harry G. Hug and Miss Allie B.
