Miss Alline Jones of Dahlon ega spent last week with rela tives in town. Miss Mary Patterson has re turned from a visit to relatives in Atlanta. Oscar Tollison, formerly of Gumming, now of Eastman, is back in the United States, and will likely be discharged soon. Rev. C. T. Brown preached excellent sermons at the Bap tist church in town Sunday at eleven and at night. Will Bell of route 4, inform ed us here one day last wesk that there were 25 Ford owners in a radius of one mile of his home. Now bpat it. Mr. Jesse L. Martin of Cor dele is spending a few days up in old Forsyth wdth relatives. He likes south Georgia very w 7 ell, but can’t stay away long. Mr. John D. Wilbanks, who has been in France with the army, has received a discharge and is at home with his parents on route 1. *. The price of cotton is going up ail along, and may reach forty cents yet. We don’t care how high it goes, as we believe the times are more prosperous now than ever before for farmers. Mr. A. W. Harris has bought the Walker Heard place up at Mat trom John Norrell. Mrs. T. J. Pirkle spent the week end with relatives in At lanta. Judge Tidwell was in Atlan ta Friday on business for the county. Mrs. Alice Mashburn has re turned from a visit to her son at Valdosta. Ford cars are as hard to get now as a good dinner at a res taurant, and that’s saying a right smart, Bud. Rev. F. C. Owens preached at New Hope Sunday morning and at Ebenezer in the after noon. Mrs. Meda Maddox of Alpha rqtta is spending a few days in Cumming with her mother, Mrs B. L. Fowler. Quite a number from town went to Gainesville Friday af ternoon to witness the ’Birth of a Nation” performance, and re port a good time. Henry Hurt has received an other car load of that famous William Tell flour, and wants you to come and get some of it jand have good bread. Old Heard Orr came home ! . Those who attended the Southern Baptist Convention in Atlanta last of the week report a large crowd and many fine discussions of tliebible by the eminent preachers in attend ance. Perry Pirkle’s friends are as glad to see him back from the army as he is to get back. He has the appeai-ance of being well fed, and says he would not take anything for the experi ence he has received during his stay in the army. Mr. Ben Tallant, son of Mr. W. C. Tallant of route 7, has ar rived from overseas, looking ex tra well, and feeling good as you please. He is very glad to be at home, and his friends arc all glad to see him. The many friends of Mr. C. H. Whitt of Mat, will deeply sympathize with him in the death of his five year old daugh ter, Ruth, which occurred Fri day. Her little body was laid to rest at Pleasant Grove Satur day, Rev. F. C. Owen conduct ing the funeral service. All the boys returning from France say that if America had not entered the war England and France would have been j defeated by new. Those coun tries give America the praise for the victory, and should do so, as our boys done the work. j We understand that anew ' circuit will be made in north I Georgia at the coming session of the legislature to be known |as the ‘Kennesaw Mountain Circuit.’ It is to be cornnosed of (the counties of Cobb, Cherokee ! IfOckenhull and family spent the week end with relatives in Atlanta and Ros well. . The committee for the Conte nary movement raised about $1400.00 last Sunday. Miss Lillie Hendrix of Cum ming and Mr. Roscoe Echols of Atlanta were happily married last Sunday, Rev. J. M. Ander son performing the ceremony. We wish them a long, happy and prosperous life. Messrs. Arthur Milford, Em ory Hamby, Charlie McDaniel, Jesse J. Martin and Jas. Paul Vaughan, Forsyth county boys who have been in France, have landed safely in New York, to be discharged soon. Fresh from the battle fields of France, Lonnie Denson came marching home one day this week having received his dis charge from the army. All bis friends were glad to see him and he is glad to be back :n the good old county again. The State Court of App v has affirmed the Superior court of this county in the case of Ver ner Autrey convicted of shoot ing Jas. Goswdck sometime ago This means that Autrey will have to servo a sentence passed on him by Judge Morris. We are requested to say that Rev. J. R. Stone will preach the funeral of Mr. S. W. Mrs. Sarah Heard, seventy years of age died at her home on route 5 la3t Friday and hex remains were laid to rest at Sha | dy Grove Saturday after funer al ser ices conducted by Re.. Robinson. Mrs. Heard was a much lov ed Christian woman and will be greatly missed in the communi ty where she has spent her life in extending kind deeds to all those about her.
