IN MEMORY.
Of Uncle Francis Daniel Ta
tum, who departed this life at
his home near New Hope on the
morning 0 f April 16th, 1919.
He was born March 8, 1834
in Forsyth county. In his youth
he joined the M. E. church at
New Hope and remained a
faithful member till his death.
He was a confederate veteran
serving thru the war. He has an
swerecl the last roll call on this
earth, but will be at the roll call
in a better country.
The remains were interred at
New Hope cemetery on Sunday
morning Apri 27th, Rev. Owen
conducting the funeral in the
church, and the Masons con
ducting the burial afterwards.
In Dec. 1854 he married Miss
Maiden Jane Smith, who with
two daughters, Mrs. M. J. Moor
head of Morgan county and
Mrs. Rebecca Ann Pierce of
Forsyth county and one son, A
bijah Tatum of Texas, survive
him. Two daughters, Mrs. Em
ily Stovall, wife of Mr. Henry
Stovall, and Mrs. Lizzie Roper
wife of Mr. Will Roper of Okla
preceded him some years ago.
“Uncle Dan,” as he was fa
miliarly called, was for some
years a Sunday school teacher
and many of his pupils will re
member all thru life some oi
his words.
In sweet remembrance of Un
cle Dan we can repeat:
“How sweet ‘tis to think when
this life fades away, we’ve a
mansion in heaven that knows
no decay. A city of God where
we freely may roam, the king
dom of promise, the saint’s
happy home.’’
Mrs. Sallie Tatum.
In Loving Memory.
Of Mrs. Lavada Barrett,who
departed this life March 11th,
1919. Her remains were laid to
rest at Marietta cemetery. She
leaves a husband, 3 children &
a host of other relatives and
friends to mourn her loss but
our loss is her eternal gain. She
was 55 years of age. She join
ed the church when quite youg
and lived a true Christian life
until death. She had been in
bad health for quite awhile,but
bore her suffering with pati
ence. She has paid the debt we
will all have to pay sooner or
later, and if we live as we
should we can meet her when
the day of life is fled, where no
farewell tears are shed. God
pity her husband and children
and help them to bear their bur
den. She has gone to live in hea
ven and walk the streets of shm
ing gold. We loved her, yes we
loved her but angels loved hex
more, and they have sweetly
called her to yonder heavenly
shore, v ail not back the dear de
parted, anchored safe where
storms are o’er, she has gone
to join her loved ones that have
gone on long before. We feel
sure that she is at rest with the
Savior. A precious one from us
it, gone, a voice we loved is still
ed, a place is vacant in the
home that never can be filled.
