The Forsyth County News Vol. 11. No. 34. LOCAL AND PERSONA L Rev. F. T. Wills filled his ap pointment at Duluth Sunday. Mrs. T. W. Seabolt spent Fri day and Saturday in Atlanta. Mr. C. A. Sams and family of Canton spent last week with relatives on route 7. Mr. Hoj t Brannon of Daw sonville attended court here on Monday. Mr. R. T. Shadburn went t/> Atlanta Saturday and secured a nice Buick car for Dr. .Pirkle Several have been in to see us this week and paid up for the paper. Mr. Ed Fincher of Atlanta is spending several days with relatives nere and in the county The protracted meeting is still in progress at the Baptist church. It will likely run on for a few days longer. Mr. M. A. Nuckolls and fam ily of Gainesville are visiting here this week. Mr. and Mrs. S. B. Patterson who have been visiting relativ es here, have returned to theii home in Atlanta. Mr. Ezra Sams of Atlanta is spending a few days with his father, Mr. A. J. Sams, on route two. Mr. Joe Foster and family of Roswell spent Saturday night and Sunday with Mr. A. G. Hoc kenhull and family. Work has commenced on the new barn of Mr. J. P. Banister. He expects to have it ready for use in a few weeks. Some from town attended the Sunday School Convention at Piedmont Sunday and report a good meeting. Mr. and Mrs. It. P. Otwell are to make their home in Gum ming. We are glad to have them back with us. Mr. Cliff Vaughan and fami ly of Roswell spent Sunday in town with Mr. W. J. Groover and family. There will be preaching at the Methodist church in town Sunday nighty the 31st. Every body invited to attend. Dr. and Mrs. M. C. McClain of Clarkston spent the last of the week with Rev. and Mr*. F. C. Owen. Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Merritt of Little Rock, Ark., and Mrs. C. G. Whiting of are vis iting Mrs. J. W. Merritt on Rt. 4 for a few days. There was no services at the M. E. Church in town Sun day on account of the meeting in progress at the Baptist church. Mr. Claud'e Hope and family moved to Commerce. We hat ed to see this good family move away, but wish them well in their new home. The many friends of Charlie Rider were mighty glad to get to shake hands with him here this week. He is now living near Tifton, but old Cumming has a warm place in his heart. Your attention is called to ad of the Southeastern Fair to be held in Atlanta this fall. Sever al hundred from this county will go down and take it in. Miss Cliff Durham and Mr. Bill Stone were happily mar ried last Rev. D. M. Nalley performing the ceremo ny. We wish them a long, hap py and prosperous life. Several are taking irf the de monstration of the Fordson Tractor this week. This is an excellent piece of farm machin ery and the people are becom ing more and more interested in them. Mr. Wiley Owens reports a new girl at his home. Mr. H. L. .Benson of Atlanta was up for a few days this week Mr. E. E. Brannon of Gaines ville was shaking hands with friends here Monday. Mr. Will Webb and family of Gainesville were here the first of the week. W. K. Kennemore of route 2 has 8 nice pigs for sale. Call to see him. . We sold five coal burning I rons Saturday and several this week. We have a few more left. Mi'. Toy Hurt and family of Cordele spent last week with relatives in the county. Mrs. J. E. Durham and child ren of Canton spent last week with relatives in the county. Serg. Hardy A. Nalley of this county who has been in France has landed safely across to the States. A glorious meeting has just closed t Haw Creek, with sev eral new’ additions to the large membership. Mr. R. E. .Hope has returned from a business trip to Detroit Mich. He has the promise of a few Dodge cars soon. Mr. J. P. Rudasill of the Ad vacne at Canton, was here on business Monday and gave our office a pleasant call. . The many friends of Mr. J. T. Hendrix who suffered a stroke of paralysis last week are glad to see him out again. Messrs. J. E. K.irby John Ed Kirby and Earl Montgomery, have purchased a Moving Pic ture outfit and will operate it in Cumming. Mrs. Frank Callaway and lit tle son of Cordele i who have been visiting Mr. Geo. L. .Mer ritt and family, are now with Mrs. Taylor near Warsaw. Mr. Deweese Hawkins of Rt 7 was painfully injured last Fri day when a car in which he was riding turned over with him. He is improving gradually accord ing to last report received. Messrs. John Black and Mac Puett hav returned from Tenn. We are glad to learn that Mrs Willis Pirkle who has been se riously sick, is improving. Mr. Geo. L. Merritt and fami ily will move in about 2 weeks to Gainesville where he will en ter the cotton business. We re gret to give them up but wish them well in their new home. Mr. E. W. Makhburn bought a small strip of land back of the barber shop from Dr. J. A. Otwell paying at the rate of $2G.000 an acre for it. Mr. John F. Jordan of Tifton was shaking hands with his old friends here this week. He is well pleased with south Geor gia and will remain down there The ball game over at Cuba last Saturday resulted in a big score of 10 to 3 in favor of Cu ba with Buford team and 5 to 1 in favor of Cuba with the Su wanee team. Mr. and Mrs. F. M. Martin and Mr. Robert Pangle of Tun nel Hill, Ga., have been visiting Mr. M. J. Hooper and family and other relatives in the coun ty for several days. Mr. Martin moved from Forsyth Cos. about 28 years ago and is pleased with the improvements here. Mr. T. L. Collins, Temp. Ad ministrator upon the estate of V. P. .Johnston, will sell the personal property of the estate consisting of cow, hogs corn & other stuff at Sheltonville t on Sept. 2nd. Last just as he had finished a sermon and stepped from the pulpit to extend an in vitation to sinne's to come to the alter for Rev. T. T. Twitty, a well known Baptist minister of Norcross was seiz ed with a stroke oi ! apoplexy and died within a very few minutes. There was not a more prom inent minister in this section than Rev. Twitty. He had serv ed as pastor of Cununing church for some years and al so of other churches in the county. Rev. Twitty was aouc sixty years of age, and is survived by a wife and several children to whom we extend sympathy. His body was laid to rest at Norcross Sunday after funeral services conducted by Rev. L. A Henderson who was a close whom Rev. Twitty helped to or dain. Cumming Public School. The Cumming Public School opens September first. Prof. Pettis will be in charge as prin cipal, assisted by Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Pettis, and Mrs. Brown, all efficient teachers. An incidental fee of $2.00 will be collected in advance for each pupil in attendance. Tui tition will be collected monthly for pupils residing outside the school district. Pupils should enter the first day if possible. Patrons and the public generally invited to the opening exercises, and will be welcomed at any time. J. E. Puett, G. W. Ingram ( R. E. Hope, A. J. Take Notice: All Confederate Soldiers are now entitled to pension by law All widows who married sold ier- husband prior to January 1881 are entitled to pension. All applicants for pension are earnestly requested to bring your witnesses with you, as this will avoid much delay or mistake as I now have a num ber of applications made out that have not been proven by witness which will stay here on file until witness comes in and proof of service are made of soldier applicant also wid ow applicant. There are about 50 soldiers including widows to apply for pension if your appli cation is filed back to wait for witness someone will be de layed if not overlooked. I will assist you in getting your wit ness but I have not time to go around and look up you a wit ness. W. J. Tidwell Ordinary. Bible Teaching and Preaching. Beginning on Wednesday Sept. 3rd there will be held at Longstreet church, a special meeting for Bible study, preach ing and geneial instruction. The church extends a gen eral invitation to pastors, dea cons and leaders to come ancf help make this a great ion for the glory of our Lord. The meeting will be opened with a sermon by Rev. J. RJ Stope at 10 o’clock and the Bi ble Teaching will be conducted by Rev. C. T. Brown. Other brethren will take part in the exercises as may be arranged from time to timp. ' Mr. J. L.
