ROANOKE
This time we want to call the
attention., of., the leaders to a
scripture in the old scripture,
in Deuteronomy, the 7th Chap
ter and see what it really
means to us of today.. All Com
niunion with other Nations, for
bidden. There were seven diff
erent Nations and all of them
had a different way of worship
from the Lord’s people, and
the Lord gave some instruc
tions to His people and He has
given His peculiar people a
warning of those people that
don’t hold with His people,
and the Lord is just as strict
Avifh His people today as He
was when they was .brought
before them. We have the
same before us today. Now the |
Lord told His people how for
them to deal with those differ-
ent Nations. Now we have to
be pig or puppy one, we can’t
be both at the same time. So
please let us hear what the
Lord said. “When the Lord
thy God shall bring thee into
the land whither thou goest to
possess it, and hath cast out
many nations before thee, the
Hittites, and the Girgoshites
and the Amortes, and the
Cannaanites, and the Perizzites
and the Hiviites, and the Juibus
itee, seven Nations greater and!
mightier than thou; And when[
the Lord thy God shall deliver
them before thee; thou shalt
smite them and utterly destroy
them; thou shalt make no cove
nant with them, nor show
mercy unto them: Neither
shalt thou make marriage with
them; thy daughter thou shalt
not give unto his son, nor his
daughter shalt thou take unto
thy son.. For they will turn
away thy son from following
me that they may serve other
gods: so will the anger of the
Lord be kindled against you,
and destroy thee suddenly.
Now just listen what the Lord
said for His people to do. “But
thus shall ye deal with them;
ye shall destroy their altars,
and break down their images,
and cut down their groves, and
burn their graven images with
fire. For thou art a holy people
unto the Lord thy God: the
Lord thy God hath chosen thee
to lie a special people unto him
self, above all people that are
upon the face of the earth. The
Loid did not set His love upon
you, nos chooses you because
ye were more in number than
any people; for ye were the
fewest of all people: But be
cause the Lord loved you, and
because He would keep the
oath which He had sworn un
to ycur fathers, hath the Lord
brought you out with a mighty
hand and redeemed you out of
the haute of bondmen, God,
the faithful God, which keep
eth covenant and mercy with
them that love Him and keep
His commandments to a thous
and generations; And repay
eth them that hate Him to
their face, to destroy them: He
will not be slack to him that
hateth Him, He will repay him
to his face. Thou shalt there
fore keep the commandments,
and the statutes, and the judg
ments, which I command thee
this day, to do them. Where
fore it shall come to pass, if ye
hearken to those judgments,
and keep, and do them, that
the Lord thy God shall keep un
to thee the covenant and the
mercy wich he swear unto thy
fathers: And He will love thee,
and bless thee, and multiply
thee: He will also bless the
fruit of thy womb, and the
fruit of thy land, thy corn, and
thy wine, and thine oil, the in
crease of thy kine, and the
flocks of thy sheep, in the land
w'hich He swear unto thy fath
ers to give thee. Thou shalt be
blessed above all people: there
shall not be male or female
bearing among you, or among
your cattle. And the Lord will
take away from thee all sick
ness, and will put none of the
evil diseases of Egypt, which
thou kno west, upon thee but
will lay them upon them that
hate thee. And thou shalt con
sume all the people which the
Loi and thy God shall deliver thee,
thins eye shall have no pity up
on them: neither shalt thou
serve their Gods; if thou shalt
say in thine heart, These Na
tions are more than I; how can
I dispossess them? Thou halt
not be afraid of them: but
shalt well remember what the
Lord thy God did unto Pharoah
and unto all Egypt; The great
temptations, which thine eyes
saw, and the signs, and the
wonders, and the mighty hand
and the strertched out arm,
whereby the Lord thy God
brought thee out: so shall the
Lord thy God do unto all the
people of whom thou art afraid
Now we must believe what the
W ord of God tells us.
Well, we attended our ap
pointment at Tate Saturday
day. night and at Cool Springs
Sunday and Sunday night. We
found a lively Sunday School
up there. But I failed to fill my
appointment at Roanoke Sun
day night, but I hope that no
one will think hard of me for I
sure did want to be there.
With best -wishes to all, I
close for this time.

Sunday School at this place
is reaching its own today we
had 92 again. This is the sec
ond Sunday that we have made
this mark. I believe we can do
this every Sunday if we will on
ly try. |
The writer has definitely de
cided to arrange for a picnic as
soon as our attendance will
stand on the 100 mark long
enough to show that it has
really reached that point. So
come on and lets make it that
much and get to go picnicking.
What are you going to do
with Exodeus 23:3?
The Summer school is over
and we teachers are ready to
begin using the methods we
learned in the school. So it
I your school is taught different
I to what you expect it to be, re
i member that we are teaching
I the way we have been taught
to teach. We are going to do
our best to put the work over
just as it has been put over to
us. I want to ask that every
patron of Haw Creek come out
on the first morning at 8 o’clock
We teachers want you there.
Mr. Neigh Garner called on
Mr. Barrett today.
We were awfully glad to see
the new ones today.
Our Sunday School report
last week should have read:
40 people haven’t missed a day
since they entered our school:
instead of 4 people haven’t
missed a day.
We who contribute to the
paper should be thankful to
the Editors for publishing our
pieces. We too often take it
for granted that ‘To print what
we write is their job.” Person
ally I am real glad that the
Editors have seen fit to print
most what I write.
Mrs. Gravitt sat up a few
minutes one day last week.
May I pass on to you anoth

Ideas
Ideas are as essential to
progress as the head is to the
body.
Ideas afford the fires that
light the fires of possibilities.
Ideas are the pass ports to
greater achievements.
Ideas determine the bounds
where we may go.
I have scrutenized the paper
very carefully for another let
ter from the windy city, but
have been disappointed so far.
Come again. Your are welcome
in Ga.
I appreciated the piece sign
ed, “A Readerr”. I believe you
are the kind of man or
woman that is worth knowing.
You know there are two class
es of people, one is worth know
ing, the other is not.
We had several good talks
today on “What is a Chris
tian”? Two passeges of scrip
ture seem to cover the whole
matter. They are: “Ye know
that you have passed from
death unto life because you
love., the., brethren”, and “By
their fruits ye ' shall know
them”.
Sunday, July 19th we will
discuss the question: “Why are
you a Baptist?” This is a real
good question for us who be
long to the Baptist church. A
great many of us are Baptists
‘Because oiur people were.’
Come out and lets learn a little
of what the Baptist believe
lots of. Of course we can not
discuss this fully at this time
but we aim to set a day this
fall and get together and dis
cuss and study these things all
day.
On Sunday, July 26 we will
dicuss a kindred subject to the
one stated above. This subject
will be “Are you a Missionary
Baptist?”
I was glad to have Mr. John
Pruitt call for the evening this
P. M.
If not providentially hin
dred I will carry Mrs. Eller t(

Lets see if we can’t get tc

norning before time for preach
