GODS MINDFUL CARE
Rev. M. C. Howard
"Nothing shall hy any means hurt
you." Luke 10: 19.
We are apt to think that this pro
mise is worded too strongly, and there
hy take too great a discount. Now in
stead of daring a "Yea, hath God said?
let us just take and imbide all the
comfort, rest and gladness of it for
ourselves. Let's believe every word,
just as our beloved Master uttered it
to the simple hearted seventy who
were surprised to find Ilis name so
much more powerful than they ex
pected.
Nothing! IT Jesus said '’nothing"
li ave you or I any right to add, "yes
except? Nothing can hurt those who
are joined to Christ "for with me thou
Khali be In safe guard, unless some
thing could 1)6 found aide to separate
us from Him. And “who shall separate
~s?" Earthly trials or tribulations
even the most terrible cannot do it.
for in "All these things we are more
than conquerors through Him that
loved us." Yet a farther reaching yea
an entirely haustive is given, none of
which, "nor any other creature, shall
e aid" to sepa ate us." Take every
thing that possibly could hurt to that
list, and see for yourself if it is not
included, and then rejoice in the in
evitable conclusion, based and built
upon our blessed Savior’s word, but
tressed and battlemenled hy this pro
mise of Holy Writ that indeed "tis
true nothing shall hy any means
hurt you.
Again He who knows our little faith
never gives an isolated promise. He
leaves no chance of overlooking or
misunderstanding any promise, except
hy wilful neglect, because it is always
confirmed ill other parts of His word.
<■;„ He has given the same strong con
solation in other terms, “The Lord
shall preserve thee from all evil.” I)o
we truly believe that? There shall no
evil happen to the just. In seven trou
bles there shall no evi! touch thee.
I,oak how He individualized it to
Shudrash. Mesach and Abednego. even
in the fiery furnace, “They have no
hurt."; to Daniel among the lions,
“They have not hurt me"; to St. Paul
among turbulent men with a care
nought governor. "No man shall set
on thee to hurt thee.” We are not liked
Ty to be more exposed to hurt than
these and we have the same God.
“Who keepeth His promise forever."
He is the wall of fire round about us; ,
and no other fortification so impene
trable—Yea so unapproaehedable!
And "He that toucheth you toucheth
the apple of His eye". The lightest
touch is felt by our Lord, who loves
vs and is mighty to save and protect.
Wet! may He say, “And who is ho that
will harm you."
"Nothing shall by any means hurt
you;" for no “weapon that is formed
against thee shall prosper}” (15a.54.4) J
man’s curse shall bo turned Into God's |
Messing. Jehovah Himself, watering j
His vineyard all the while, says; “Lest j
any hurt it, I will keep it night and :
day.” lisa. 27. :!> Then this promise j
with one solemn condition, takes even |
n stronger form; "Whoso keepeth the
commandment shall feel no evil thing j
(Kxele. S : r>)
Could we ask for more? Still His '
wonderful love has more to say not j
only that nothing shall hurt us, hut j
that all things work together for our .
good; not only shall work Imt actually |
Ait K WORKING. All things, if that
MKAN'S ALL THINGS must include
exactly those very things, whatever ,
they may ho, which you and l may
think will, or at least may hurt us.
Now will we trust our own ideas or |
the word of Christ? One or the other
must he mistaken Which is it- Christ
mv Savior, my Master, my Lord has
given this promise which meets every
fear; therefore ”1 will both lay me
down in peace and sleep: for thou
Lord only makest me to dwell in safe
ty," and “nothing shall by any means
hurt me."

“All right,” replied the youngster,
