Brenau /College annual house-party
for high school seniors, when a
special program was presented, in
cluding visits to sorority chapter
houses: the Brenau Academy play
“The Sky’s the Limit’’ Friday even
ing, a dance at Riverside Military
Academy Saturday evening, after a
formal dinner in the Brenau College
dining halls, and an address by Presi
dent H. J. Pearce to the guests Sun
day morning. Misses LaTrelle and
Rebecca Otwell, sisters of Frances,
are members of Zeta Tau Alpha,
national sorority at Brenau.

A Revival will begin at the Cum
ming Methodist Church Sunday night
May 4th at 8:15.
Rev R. L. Bettis will assist the
pastor in the meeting. There will be
two seivices each day, as follows: 3
P. M. and 8:15 P. M. We are looking
forward to having a good meeting.
We are hoping that the people will
give us their cooperation in these
days of distress and awful war torn
world.

Mr. and Mrs. Homer Jones announce
the marriage of their daughter Mary
to Loyd Boling of Brandywine. The
marriage took place April 26 at the
Methodist parsonage in Alpharetta.
Rev. Moorehead performed the cere
mony.
Mr. Boling is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Jesse Boling of Brandywine. The
young couple will make their home
with the grooms parents for the pres
ent.

The music club met at the school
house, Tuesday afternoon at 4 o’clock

A Recruit For Safety

Attorney General Ellis Amall of Georgia, enthusiastic crusader for
safety, is shown enrolling Anne Equen in the Ford Good Drivers
League, which was organized by Edsel Ford to promote safe driving
by the nation’s youth. Miss Equen will graduate from Washington
Seminary in Atlanta in June. Her mother is president of the Garden
Club of Georgia and her father is a noted eye, car, nose and throat
specialist. By enrolling in the league, she bapomes eligible to compete
for one of the 98 university scholarships 49 for girls and 49 for
boys offered by Mr. Ford to winners of safe driving tests to be held
in each state with national finals at Dearborn, Michigan, in August.

RIDGE BAR ASSOCIATION

The annual meeting of the Blue
Ridge Bar Association was held Fri
day night, April 27 at Ellijay, with
the president, A. H. Burtz, Ellijay,
presiding.
In the election of officers. J. G.
Roberts of Marietta, was named presi
dent; TANARUS, H. Crawford of Rlu-e Ridge,
vice president; Hugh Dorsey Sosebee
of Cumming, secretary; William Butt
Blue Ridge, was elected district mem
ber of the board of governors of the
state bar; Judge J. H. Hawkins, of
Marietta, and Carl Tallant, of Cum
ming, were named delegates to the
state convention, with John S. Wood
of Canton, and J. G. Roberts, of Mari
etta, alternates.
Misses Mabel Henslee and Mae
Gwenn Matthews, of the Ellijay High
School faculty, arranged an entertain
ment program, and a banquet was
given by the Woman’s Club, in whose
building the meeting was held.
DRIVERS LICENSE
The State Highway Patrolman, who
comes to my office every first and
third Wednesdays, informs me that
you can renew your drivers license
now.
Your present drivers license will
expire June 30th, and the public safe
ty department insists that you make
applications as soon as possible be
cause clerks at this time can issue
them imm|edlately. Later the rush
will be so heavy that it will take con
siderably longer for the applicant to
receive it.
Under the new legislation depend
ent minors, who live with a parent
may purchase a license *for 25c and
a wife will only have to pay 50c pro
vided the parent or head of the fam
ily holds a SI.OO license. Application
blanks will be available at Sheriff’s
offices, filling stations and various
places.

SUCCESS IN CANNING
In order to be successful in canning
it is necessary to have: 1. Good jars
and rubbers, or tin cans and a sealer.
Jars should he cleaned and boiled for
15 minutes before packing. 2. A steam
pressure canner for use in canning
meat and non-acid vegetables, and 3.
A few pieces of small canning equip
ment.
