Table Settings That Hear Out a Color Scheme
to-
China and glass, whether merely attractive or really fine, give
us a real sense of pleasure arid pvide in our everyday living or enter
taining. And as it's an everyday necessity, and we must eat, why not
plot your table setting to be something! Not just
r mm r m dishes used any old way, but sets of china used

J England—you know the names, Spode, Crown Darby,
, Asgfc Royal Worcester, Royal Doulton, Wedgewood Caul
dron, or our own equally fine Lenox and attractive
Onondaga. I mention the names as there is “open
HELEN KOUES stock” in the better china making it possible to
Director Oi replace old patterns to keep your service complete.
Good p orcelairl( bone c hi n a, eathern ware, pottery, are all
to be found, and each have special attractions.
The high priced china is high because its finer workmanship will
usually give longer service. It is wise to look into the quality of the
ware you are buying, but it's a big subject and this piece is to awaken
your interest in
what youdmay
have, what you
a need, and give
you a fresh idea
or two perhaps,
of what you can
combine to make
attractive table
settings for lun

an attractive
table setting
costs little. So if
your stock is
low, now is tiie
time to see what

Let us think
of dinner first.
It is not neces
sary that you
have a matching
set for all
IT or A- china into the color tchemc of your dining room courses, but it is
ew necessary that
what is used for one course match, and that it harmonize with the
general scheme of the table setting. As you sit down, your table has
the service plate in place. If china, the predominating color in it can be
used for the glass, which may be crystal or blue, let us say. Today
there is much deep blue glass that is attractive. So stemmed goblets,
wine glasses and sherry glasses of deep blue give spots of color
at each place setting. The centerpiece, a deep blue covered glass
dish with two blue glass fruit or flower bowls on each side, all match.
Silver candlesticks may be combined with the glass dishes or they too
may be of glass to match the dishes. It’s very nice to be able to
vary your table settings using all glass sometimes and all ilver
another and at others, a combination. Ir. fact, dark blue glass service
plates are effective where all blue glass is used. The soup plate could
be white and gold, the fish plate match the sen-ice plate or not as
you please, but if china, it must harmonize in color. When the fish
plates with the service plates are removed the dinner plate is put
down, so that it is necessary for it to harmonize with the blue glass.
And so on—but when the finger Imwls with their plates are put down
last, it is effective to have them of blue glass to match the goblets, etc.
All this sums up to the fact that you must have a related color scheme
rather than a complete matched set. This enables you, who know what
you have, to buy either glass to complete a scheme, or sets of dinner,
.-wind or soup plates as your requirements may be.
:> ,wa,lavs ali sorts of delightful and novel centerpieces are used.

top rolled back, and the dish filled with fruit with grapes hang ng ever.
