The Country Preacher
-By-
Rev. Newton Wise
1 have just returned from a pleas
ant duty. It was in a home where J
had the pleasure of joining another
couple together in matrimony. The
young lady was beautiful as she stood
at the altar In the home and the
young man looked clean and strong.
They began this day facing life to
gether.
How good it is to come to the mar
riage ocassion and be able to look
tin young bride in the fatce or the
groom, as the case may be and say;
•I inve remained true-.! have *r'ed
ta keep my body and mind clean and
pure.
Even though some young people
may have created a light and frivo
lous attitude toward marriage, I am
happy when I see young people like
these.
I believe one of the most sacred of
all ceremonies is the marriage cere
mony. Jesus must have loved the
marriage ceremony because he went
to one in Cana of Galilee.
For the benefit of those young peo
pie who are planning to be married
in June or in the near future, I am
including a short marriage ceremony
used by my church:
‘•Dearly beloved, we are gathered
together here in the sight of God and
in the presence of these witnesses to
join together this man and this wo
man in holy matrimony; which is an
honorable estate, instituted of God in
the time ot man’s innocency, signify
ing unto us the mystical union that
is between Christ and his church;
which holy estate Christ adorned and
beautified with his presence, and
first thirst miacle that he wrought,
in Cana of Galilee, and is commended
of St. Paul to be honorable among
all men and therefore is not by any
to be enterprised, or taken in hand
unadvisedly but reverently discreetly
advisedly and in the fear of God.
Into which holy estate these two
persons present come now to be poin
ed. Therefore if any men can show
any just cause why they may
lawfully be joined together, let him
speak or else thereafter forever hold
his peace. ... (Then the minister
speaks to the bride and groom.)
If either of you know any impedi
ment why ye may not be lawfully
joined together in matrimony, ye do
now confess it now Will you have
this woman to lie your wedded wife,
to live together after God’s radiance,
in the holy estate of matrimony Wilt
thou love her, comfort her, honor and
keep her in sickness and ; ii health
and forsaking all others keep thee
only unto her so long as you both
shall live?. "I will”.
Will you have this man to be your
wedded husband, to live together af
ter God’s ordinance, in the holp es
tate of matrimony? Will you love,
honor, and keep him in sickness and
in health; forsaking all others, keep
thee only unto him so long as ye
both shall 1ive?...."1 will” ....
(Then the man repeats the follow
ing after the minister.)
I. M., take thee, N to be my wed
ded wife, to have and to hold from
this day forward, for better, for worse
for riches, for poorer, in sickness and
in health, to love and to cherish till
death us do part according to God's
holy ordinance; and herto I plight
thee my troth.
(Then thv lady repeats the same)
After the ring has been handed to
the groom the minister leads him as
he says:
With this ring I thee 'wed, and all
my worldly goods, I thee endow in
the name of the father and of the
son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer: O enternal God, Creator
and preserver of all mankind, Giver
of all spiritual grace, the author of
everlasting life; send thy blessing
upon this man and this woman, whom
we bless in thy name; that they may
surely perform and keep the vow be
tween them made, and ever remain
in perfect love and peace together
and live according to thy laws thru
Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Then the minister shall join their
hands together and say.-Those whom
God hath joined together, let not man
put asunder. For as much as M. and
N. have joined together in holy wed
lock, and have witnessed the same
before God and this company, and
thereto have pledged their faith eith
er to other, and have declared the
same by joining of hands; I pronoun
ce that they are husband and wife
together in the name of the Father
and of the Son and the holy Ghost.
Amen.

book of the Methodist church in 1930.

eating right
“Thousands of Georgia farm fami
lies do not get the foodthey need,”
says Miss Susan Mathews, Extension
nutritionist. "There are some who
can’t buy, some who don’t know the
value of eating properly and some
who don’t properly utilize the food
they grow on their farms. There is
danger in improper eating. It causes
people to tire too easily, think slow
ly, and it tears down the bodies so
they can’t fight diseases. Aany fami
ly can learn how to plan and prepare
