BOILING EGGS
Shells are less likely to break if
eggs are at room temperature rath
er than cold when put to cook in
hot water. Probably a better cook
ing method is to put the eggs in
cold water and bring eggs and
water to simmering temperature to
gether.
TOYS FOR BABIES
For bay’s safety, toys should be
too large to swallow and have no
points or sharp edges. They should
be washable and made in one piece
so that they cannot come apart.
Paint, if any, should be nonpoison
ous.
Pastures should have a good
chance to start growth before the
milk cows or other cattle are turned
into them.

You don’t need bright aunlight for interesting photographic studies, as.
evidenced by this Graflex photo contest honor winner made by Bill
Regan of San Jose, Cal., with a Speed Graphic on press panchromatic film.
* DULL DAYS MAKE GRAND PORTRAITS
How many times have cloudy
.gray days made you decide not to try
to take pictures? It's true that
landscape and general scenic
shots don't have the snap and In
terest that they do In bright sunny

that gray days are

We've sB found how difficult K

and become impatient. If we turn
them Into partial shade, then we
need a rehector or Bash to lighten
up the shadows and cut down the
contrast between bright and dark.

KITCHEN ACCIDENTS
Homemakers who plan to can and
preserve this summer should re
member that during this season the
kitchen is the busiest room in the
house and the most dangerous.
There are scalds and burns due
mostly to careless handling of kitch
en utensils and falls due to using
chairs, boxes or tables Instead of
safe kitchen ladders.
FURNITURE POLISH
A good homemade furniture pol
ish can be made by placing three
fourths pint of linseed oil, one
fourth pint of turpentine and one
tablespoon of vinegar in a bottle
and shaking well. Apply with a soft
cloth and rub until a luster is ob
tained.

on the face of a subject and you'll
find you can utllixe faint shadows
to add Interest and modeling to the
face. Best of all. your subject can
be perfectly natural and you can
concentrate on facial expressions
and camera angles without having
to worry about even Illumination,
cutting down black shadows and the
other problems posed by the sun.
Few people realise that color
portraits can be particularly excel
lent oa these doll days. The bright
ness range of highlights and sha

the Mm and color renditions tend
to he truer than when they are In
fluenced by bright sun and the tn

aaed to work on a tripod, for 1/10
letirsaid at PytJ will be about the
