He that Is slow to anger is hot
ter than the mighty, and he that
ruleth his spirit than he that tak
eth a City. Proverbs 16: 32.
The lesson we had in Sunday
School last Sunday was one that
would do us all good If practiced
dally. It taught us self-control for
good living. Even though It takes
great strength it shows bravery to
practice self-control each day and
we can become a lot better people
as we learn to control our tempers
tongues, appetites tagainst alcoho
lic drinks and other harmful things
etc.) The Bible verses from Pro
vecrbs 15: 1 2, 16 : 32, 20: 1 are
usually hard to obey but If a lot
of the world could practice them
we would have a lot fewer sad
headlines in the newspapers and
not near so many sad and broken
hearts and homes.
A very welcome guest for ser
vices on Sunday morning was our
former pastor. Rev. D. M. Nalley.
The Junior choir who have learned
to love him so much, sang a song
In his honor. We hope he can feel
welcome to come and worship with
us often.
Our pastor Rev. C. E. Warren
preached a real good sermon on
Sunday morning from Matthew
16: 13—18 about “The Church”.
He explained how Jesus planned
to build His church on the rock
of faith which the gates of hell
shall not prevail against. Christ
didn’t mean church buildings but
those who go to make the church
of Christ which we as His follow
ers have the great privilege of
being a part of.
After enjoying real good and
helpful B. T. IJ. lessons we were
blessed with another wonderful ser
mon by Rev. Warren from Luke
24: 13 -32 about ‘The Christ of
The Emmaus Road."
Just as Christ walked down the
Emmaus road with the two disci
ples, after His ressurrection, He
walks the roads of life with those
who let Him. It is so wonderful to
know that we can depend on Him
to lead us out as we travel the
rough road of life which would
be too hard for us without His
strength and guidance.
Then just as He sat at the table
and ate with these disciples He will
be the guest at every meal at our
tables if we invite Him and con
duct our lives in a w'ay that He
will stay with us. Rev. Warren
stressed the fact that Christ will
not force Himself into nobody's
heart or home. He merely stands
at the door and knocks, then entei s
only when we open the door anil
invite Him in. Hike the Motto,
“Christ is the Head of this House
The Unseen Guest at every meal,
The Silent Listener to every Con
versation”.
Can we think of this and have a
clear conscience about what t hrist
hears and sees in our homes and
around our tables?
We would like for all parents
to bring your children to both the
morning and evening services. The
morning services begin at 10 and
Te evening services at 6:30. These
Sunday School and B. T. U. les
sons are wonderful helps for your
young Christians as well as older
ones. All parents want the best for
their children and they will cer
tainly form the best habits of life
if you train them to attend church
regularly. How can we think of
not doing it when there is so much
to lead them astray other places
than the church? The good ser
mons we are having are better
than medicine for all of us.
Brandywine H. D. C.
The Brandywine HOC met Mon
day. October 18, at the home of
Mrs. Bess Martin. Since this was
the month for making trays there
was no business. The members en
joyed their get together, making
plates and trays, chatting and
laughing. The hostess served hot
coffee or tea with an assortment
of cookies.
The Club will meet at 2:00 p. m.
November 15 at the home of Mrs.
Lethie Mundy and Mrs. Wilda Bail
ey on Brandywine road. Everyone
who took traps and plates are to
bring them to this meeting for
completion. This is the month to
elect officers for the coming year
and each member is urged to at
tend. c
