Historic Blount Mansion in Knoxville, Tenn., stands as one of
the oldest examples of colonial architecture away from the •••stern
seaboard. Built in 1792, it was one of the first houses erevtci! in the
frontier town of Knoxville, and is said to be the first weather hoarded
house west of the Appalachians. Its appearance is much «h«,
as when it was first built, except for the modern asphalt shine- 1 '
which also prelects many other historical monuments fr-.sn both
weather and fire. The mansion Was built by William Blount, first
governor of the territory of Tennessee, and one of the first senate's

She Brings Color To Tires

Marcia Gottschali, probably the only woman tire designer in the nation,
who developed U. S. Rubber’s blue, brown and green tires. 9
Colored tires in blue, green and brown have recently been introduced
to blend with the gay colors of new automobiles. The tires, made by
United States Rubber Co., represent successful production of colored
tires which has been a goal of the rubber industry for many years.
Behind the idea is Marcia Gottschali, believed to be the only woman
tire designer in the country. She worked with scores of colors before
selecting the right ones to blend with a majority of the bright colors so
popular with motorists today. The tires have scuff-proof white sidewalls,
and the cured-in color extends from the white to the tread. Colors will
not peel or rub off. Miss Gottschali believes that the tires will appeal
particularly to women, who are expected to have more voice in tire
purchases from now on.
