Tests over s three year period at the University of Tennessee
back up other station and individual farm flock tests in the lamb pro
ducing areas of the South East, which is rapidly taking its place in
the nation’s market places as a meat producer. Lambs sired by Hamp
shire rams averaged $1.13 more to the producer by selling at a higher,
earlier market at a greater weight. ... , 1
-> The experiment included feed efficiency, and gaining of pure bred
rams, and capacity to transmit fast gaining characteristics to the
offspring. Hampshire rams, mated with native, Northwestern and
California ewes produced lambs averaging 78.6 pounds at 135 days.
This was five pounds more than another breed. Tests indicated that the
high gaining rams in individual performance also aired the fast gain
ing lambs in progeny tests.

In the late spring up to the sum
mer holiday season, Paris and its en
virons literally have more “rights”
than days. Each famous institution,
each luxury trade, has its own
“night” in the month. There are
fashionable nights at the Tuileries
garden, musical nights at Sceaux,
the sports nights at Chantilly—fire
works everywhere and fountains
vie with one another i i elegance
and beauty.
I can think of no better way to
start our summer holiday than to
be there at that time of the year.
With Paris . i a headquarters, each
day we can make an excursion in
another direction encompassed by
the lie de France. This is the fa
mous “garden of flowers and stone”,
the territory in a radius approxi
mately 60 miles from Paris —a re
gion of bright and changing skies
which contains within its "charmed
circle” the Palace of Versailles,
the famous cathedral at Chartres,
Fontainebleau, the house of Ravel
at Montfort-L’Amaury, and many
historic royal parks and chateaux.
In La Ville Lumiere itself on
June 11 to the 13 we will attend
the great fair, the “Kermesse aux
Etoiles” attended by hundreds of
entertainment stars. And to pile
fun on frolic we will make the
rounds of the gay night spots in
Thursday, June 2nd, 1955
Or> the grounds at Versailles
Montmartre, browse through St.
Germain des Pr£s, the Greenwich
Village of Paris, and visit all the
monuments and celebrated points
of interest that have made Paris
the goal of all who love to travel.
A few days later in the Bois de
Boulogne we will attend the two
weeks long Rose Show at the jewel
like castle, Bagatelle.
Oi: any Friday evening, starting
in June, we can attend one of the
brilliant light and sound spectacu
lars at Versailles. We will feel like
courtiers in the fabulous era of
Louis XIV amid the splendors of
Le Chateau de Versailles as color
fully illuminated fountains play (
against a setting of perfectly formed
shrubs and flowers. And through
the miracle of stereophonic sound
we will relive the history of that
glorious era in a program related
by Andre Maurois containing music
as it was played and sung at that
time.
There is more to do than we will
have time for, but we’ll do a lot
more than you imagine because it
is all within two hours drive from
Paris. So load your camera andi
bring your drivers license. Until
then, _
