II HOMEOWNERS' JmL*

Q—l ;im planning to build a
basementlcss house, which I want
to have completely air condi
tioned, but the only place I have
to install the equipment is a 2-
foot-wide and 3-foot-deep closet.
Is it possible to get all the equip
ment for summer cooling, as well
as winter heating, in this limited
space?
A—Yes, if you install a “remote
system. A space-saving cooling
unit fits in the bonnet on top of the
furnace. The compressor and the
condenser are in a separate unit
tllat goes outside the house or in
the garage.' Cooled air is blown
through the same ducts used for
heating. The entire system, origi
nated by the Coleman Company of
Wichita, Kan., takes no more in
terior space than does the heating
equipment alone.
' Q May I use a striped and a fig
ured pattern in the same room?
A—Yes, but not in equal
amounts Let one predominate,
the other act as a complement.
You may also add plain accent col
ors to the two, as long as they re
peat tones from the striped and
figured patterns.
Q—l’ve heard the term “flash
ing’' used in connection with roof
ing. What is it?
A—Flushing is a strip of metal
or roll roofing applied along roof
valleys and coves, around projec
tions through the roof, and wher
ever the roof meets a vertical wall.
Before the asphalt shingles are
laid, flashing must be properly
applied according to exact specifi
cations to assure a fully weather- j
tight roof.
Comfort Seen Cue
To* Fuel Savings
Your own sweet comfort is one
of the best yardsticks for judging
fuel savings resulting from a home
insulated with mineral wool. This
may sound strange, but actually
•home comfort and economy go
hand in hand.
A complete mineral wool instal
lation not only saves up to 40 per
cent in fuel, but cuts down on chil
ling drafts and body-to-wall radi
ation, which can seriously affect a
person’s comfort. A comfortable
home-owner, therefore, is saving
money.
MANY DRY WALLS’
Dry wall commonly refers to
I wall boards such as plywood, ce
ment board, hardboard, gypsum
board, paper board, and fiber
board, as well as any other mate
rial applied iit a dry process.
