WHAT CHRISTMAS
MEANS TO ME
KATE KAY HARRIS
To Me—Christmas has a very
special meaning. It is truly a time
for happy celebrating but not for
unnecessary and rude noises and
doing things to dishonoh the sa
credness of the true meaning of
the season. It is a season for hon
oring Christ’s name in singing
praises and real worship, a time
for loving, forgiving and forget
ting all strife and bitterness.
At the beginning of December,
when all the Disc Jockeys start,
playing the Christmas songs over!
the radio, the stores are made so
beautiful and everyone seem to
swing into the happy Christmas
'mood, it does something to my
heart and I get right into that
mood too. Kitchens begin to smell,
of the spicy aroma of fruit cakes,
windows are cleaned and with
their beautiful wreaths, smile out
a greeeting to passersby. Even ap
ples, oranges and peppermint candy 1
tase better at this season than any
other time of the year. • l
It is a time when we like to read
that sweet old story in Luke 2 and
listen to all the good sermons and I
Sunday School lessons leading up i
to Christmas Day when our pastor I
will give the beautiful Christmas
Story and we can all join in sing-1
ing the Christmas Carols that nev
er fail to give our hearts a thrill, j
Even though Christmas has been
about the same always with thej
same Santa Claus, Christmas Car
ols and the same spirit of giving, J
it always gives me' a new thrill
and it seems that with each year
my love for fellow man and for
my Saviour is renewed and streng
thened as the real meaning of
Christmas is revealed to me.
I believe that old Santa is a
Spirit of giving who exists in all
hearts who like to make others
happy. Christ was the first Christ
mas Gift to the world and along
with this first Gife was bom that
Spirit of Giving that has never
■died. That night, while all was
staill and all little children were
sleeping peacefully, This great
Gift was delivered into the world
to make everyone awake and re
joice from slumbering sin into the
happiness of a new life—thus old
Santa leaves gifts in the quietness
of night to bring joy to boys and
girls at their awakening.
Even though so many things are
changing in this world, I hooe the
Christmas Customs "along with old
Santa will never change. Little
girls and boys would miss half
the joys of their lives without
those days of hopefully looking
forward to a visit from old Santa
which gladdens their little hearts
on Christmas morning just as
Christ will make a special visit in
to their hearts and bring special
happiness when they later lyal'ze
their need for him.
At this season, we begin to think
of friends and loved ones whom
we have not seen in a long time
or maybe haven’t heard from since
a year ago. Wie want them to
know that we still love them and
we have a wonderful way of let
ting them know that with the
beautiful Greeding Cards made for
that purpose. Nothing thrills me
more than to open the manv cards
and read the nice greetings from
friends and relatives. In this way
love is being spread the world
over at this sacred season.
So manv goo deeds are being
done bv different organizations and
individuals to see that Santa visits
the poor children and I he™* no
one will be left out, because Christ
was a Gift to all and wants all to
be hanov because of Him on His
birthdav. Even those on hospital
beds or those in secret distress be
cause of afflictions can reioiee in
their hearts as they think of thp
one who came to make it possible
for us to be free from sphering
on that better day when we can
forever sing and rejoice with the
angels.
On this Christmas Dav. mav we
all think of Christ whose Mrthday
we are celebrating and take time
to bow our heads and humb’y nray,
“Thank you, dear Father, for that
first Gift, your loving Son. and
may He ever reign in ’-*rrts the
world over to bring Peace on
Earth and Good Will toward Men.”
CARD OF THANKS
We wish to express our sincere
thanks to our good neighbors and
friends who were so kind to us
during the recent death of our dear
Mother. We shall never forget your
many kind words of comfort and
your kind deeds,
Wie want to thank Reverend
Clarence Williams, Hillis McGinnis
and Hoyt Thompson for their kind
words of comfort, Ingram Funeral
Home for their kind service, the

rest and abide with each of you is

FORSYTH COUNTY FFA NEWS
The members of our Chapter
have completed setting out 82 piec

Vocational Agriculture Building.
This is a part of the Chapters’
Community Service Program which
is being sponsored and paid for
jointly by our Chapter and the
County Board of Education. This
Shrubbery, consisting of Burfordi
and Boxwood Holly, cost $164.00.
The Chapter ppaid $64.00 and fur
nished a truck to haul part of the
shrubbery and the County Board
paid the remaining SIOO.OO and
hauled the balance of it. We set
the shrubbery and will take care
of maintenance of it.
The next improvement we hope
to complpete in the near future is
the landscapping of the small is
land in froqt of our building. We
have seeded this island to an all
perennial grass mixture and have
a very ggood stand. We will set
shrubbery around the outer edges
of the island when weather condi
tions permit.
When the Board of Education
completes -pouring walkways to
our building we will reseed the
yards and complette setting the
shrubbery. We are glad to partici
pate iin this beautification project
both for the experience and to help
beautify our building.
